Material for a large room
Hello everyone,
I was just wondering if anyone knew what that material is called that they use in older public toilets to build the cubical or even the stuff used to construct a "donga" (fifo workers should be especially familiar). Basically I am moving the grow to a large colourbond shed. I will be able to run 3 phase power to it. Fully customised and fully sick ![]() I plan on building a room internal to the shed and would love to use something like the material described above. The main reason being it looks quite easy to construct and I am pretty sure you can get it with foam sandwiched in between two thin bits of metal so its pretty well insulated. The doors and windows look really easy to cut out and construct and from what I can see everything is held together with pop riverts. Corners appear to be flushed with bits of aluminium or tin angle and I recon you could just mount a C-Channel on the cement floor and slide the panels in place before riveting. I plan on installing a split system A/C and I am not sure how large the room will be yet. I've got 4x 600watt electronic ballasts so the area will probably be about 4 or 5 square meters.

I built a room many moons ago in a shed with sandwich panel. I have built many large carcass chillers with it and it is simply the easiest material you can get to build a room with. Straight panels and some angle to hold it together. What can be easier than that? Anyways...the room I built was actually 2 rooms, one inside the other, all with sandwich panel. There was a gap of approx 12" between the 2 layers for intake and exaust but most importantly it kept a layer of cold air around the actual growroom so it couldn't be detected by them silly little monkeys flying around in the sky with IR guns. I assume it works coz he still runs it and has done for like 15 years now. Stayin safe is good

How do you guys do the doors?
I was thinking C-Channel around the door way and then maybe some flat overlapping the C so the door only opens one way. Only has to overlap 10mm or so. The flap would help keep the light out/in. Could probably put some thin foam or something on the flat overlap so it makes a bit of a seal? Does that sound right?

C channel around the frame and the overlap of flat would work but you will still probably need some rubber seal. One option would be some car boot rubber seal and a butload of tek screws. You can also just cut a door outta sandwich panel, wrap in c-channel etc. I remember being told when cutting sandwich panel to use a circular saw to cut the actual panel. Ive seen many use grinders but have been told grinders can cause a fire via the friction, sparks and foam and all. |

Just realized you meant running an overlap all the way around the frame.
Should be fine with some foam or rubber weather seal around it to create the actual seal. I just finished sealing my new little venture (and I do mean little) with this stuff: https://www.bunnings.com.au/products_...bType=products It splits into 2 thin strips although I found it seals great left as it is (double strip). |

You've almost built my new grow room Rumblefish & Th3 Sp3wMoNk3y !!
My final question lol How do you guys join the panels? Are there H sections you can get or do you use a T section on each side? Perhaps just a flat? I dont like that idea. I think a H or T would be easier to align strait. I want it to look good as well as be functional. My current home built room is an absolute shocker haha. Seriously though, thank you both for your suggestions I cant wait to get started!
