Denver DA weasel words

Denver Post July 31, 2013. The city of Denver wants a big tax on recreational weed to cover the expense of all the supposed problems it will cause. Denver DA Mitch Morrissey mentioned 12 homicides, an execution style slaying, 100 aggravated robberies and home invasions all tied to MMJ.

Someone called him on that and it turns out some incidents were black market and the rest had no drug involment at all. Morrissey said later those were "loose figures".

What a surprise. An elected official lying and using weasel words about MMJ.

They have no idea what to do. Those things probably happened, there are murders all the time and yes people get robbed. Not usually over cannabis though. Ken Goreman was the leader of the 4/20 Rally here in Denver. He grew in his basement, and it's no secret that he was brutally slain in his living room. Well, no secret if you're a local activist I guess. What is a secret is who did it. It is still "unsolved." This tragic event and loss of a great leader who is largely responsible for laying the ground work of legalization in Denver and Colorado and who was responsible for the decriminalization here in Denver ultimately paid the highest price for us. Could have been an official job, could have been cartel's or mafioso's. Both of them felt they stood a lot to lose in the legalization process, and they did. They lost control and money. The people are taking it back.

Article on Ken:
This site is not a credible news source as far as I'm concerned, but it is proof of the incident and if you read some of the comments you will realize the controversy we are dealing with.

Much of Colorado officialdom is having a very difficult time coping with the new reality of A64. In their heads, the unthinkable has happened, and it frightens them. What they thought they knew for certain has been swept away in a paradigm shift.

It's a lot like the way that White Conservatives reacted to Obama in the White House.

There hasn't been much to hear, other than anti-MJ fear mongering. It's all waiting on the Feds, who apparently don't have any more idea what to do than a lot of Colorado officialdom.

Dunno how they'll play it, but pretending that nothing is happening won't really be an option January 1. Or maybe it will be. Nobody knows.

Hey Hammerhead: It's been very quiet in the MMJ world. Officialdom is going nuts trying to figure out how to implement Ammendment 64. The department that regulates MMJ got caught up in a scathing audit where they bought very expensive furniture and big black SUV's and ran out of money and a lot of the cars stood empty. Officialdom gave them the job of regulating Recreational Weed which surprised me. They have a new leader who promised to stop frivilous spending and lower the cost of a MMJ lisence for users.

The governor and politicos seem to be making a good faith effort to implement Recreational weed and the feds have been strangely silent and give no guideance. I think they realized the genie is out of the bottle. The only problem I see is a lot of cities are opting out of recreational sales which they are allowed to do. I think when they see all the sales tax money other cities are getting they will jump on board. Money talks.

Or we'll end up with the same situation as dry counties in some states- there's a liquor store & bar just across the county line. The whole state of Utah is kinda like that, with places like Wendover Nevada catering to the sinful tastes of Utah residents.
