Just want to mention that in reality these are digital magnifiers, rather than true microscopes.

Although cheaply manufactured something like this;

https://www.microscopenet.com/40x400x...ra-p-9808.html

or this might give you the best of both worlds

https://www.microscopenet.com/40x400x...ra-p-9814.html

Or you can try this, although 3w LED is not the best for phase contrast; Not a recommendation; I have no idea the quality.

https://www.microscopenet.com/40x2000...ra-p-9166.html

Or 20W halogen is a great improvement; Not a recommendation; I have no idea the quality.

Thinking about it. I go for my first colonoscopy in two weeks. I'd rather DIY to be honest.

I talked them into a virtual colonoscopy. The advantages are that nothings goes into the colon so no chance of rupture or infection and at the same time the adjacent organs are viewed for anomalies, etc.
The disadvantages are, if they see polyps they need to go in anyway to remove them and the cost is around $1K. Here it is covered by universal health care if deemed necessary.

It is just a scan of the colon and organs. I was told mine was so clean I need not get another exam for 10 years.

Well, here's to hoping you aren't one of those people that wake up half way through.

Not sure why I used that emoticon. I laugh about it, but it doesn't make me grin ear to ear XD

OK! That's enough. Back on topic. Hurumph hurumph.

One more (bad) thing. The nurse that assists the doctor is a real hot blond who goes to my church. I mean a steady 9 on a bad day. It will be awkward to see her on Sunday knowing she'll be looking into my butt hole the next morning. AARHG!
Now, back on topic.

I agree. There are some ways to test your compost tea without a microscope but they aren't the greatest. For example, most aerobic microorganisms are able to produce the catalase exoenzyme in the presence of H2O2. It undergoes a reaction which is visible by bubbling upon addition, indicating the presence of aerobic microorganisms. There are also selective and differential media you can use to plate and incubate the microbes but you would need to really know the morphological characteristics of the strains you're looking for. I guess it could be done since you have an idea of what you're putting in your tea initially but microscopes are very useful.
