strange phenomenon

Hi all.

I started to dabble a bit in making my own stock of seeds some time back . I always took a simple approach to it ,

Well this is what im up too :

I bought a pack of Mr nice black widow reg seeds . I proceeded to take what i considered the best male in the bunch and crossed it with 4 different pheno of the Bw as well as a dinafem sweet deep grapefruit , green house seeds cheese and Himalayas gold .

The results where stellar the best cross out of the bunch being the SDG .

The F1 seeds where taken and grown outdoors . I had started 24 seeds and to my surprise there where 23 females and only 1 male .

I took this 1 male and back crossed it to the original dinafem Sdg.

This bx1 seed stock really started to show alot of similar characters as the orginal mom which is what i want tbh .

The only problem im having now is i have grown out 59 seeds resulting in 59 females and no males. The second rd i found 1 male but after 3 weeks into flower he started to grow a lot of pistols

So i culled him an now im back to to finding another male but im running out of seeds, So im thinking i might make a batch of colloidal silver and spray my clone of the orginal mother and self the mother with this pollon.

Any ideas as to whats goign on here ? Is this common

Also ive grown out 1 of the bw x bw pheno #2 and it was the same all femals as well as the hg from green house seeds . Im gogin to add the green house seeds chees and gold where both fem versions aswell as the SDG form dinafem . The only reg seeds i had was form Mr nice Black widow .

Sounds like you're meant to grow out lots of females and have lots of bud.

That's a lot of females. I'm no expert, but perhaps the 'male' black widow wasn't a true male (or the male used to bx). Maybe it was a female who expressed very strong male characteristics, resulting in what appeared to be a male, but genetically it's still female/female when it comes to breeding. Reminds me a lot of how Peyote Purple from CBG is almost all female, but will show a 'male' on occasion.

Kamyo sounds spot on. Hard to see anything else explaining a female ratio that good. It does sound like the PP situation.

yep... what kamyo and MrSterling said... starting with only ten individuals to select from, within your parent strain population, drastically limits your selection abilities...

so you ended up using a herm female as your pollen donor... and now have a feminized/hermaphrodite line...

what led you to consider the male BW you selected as the best breeding individual among the population?

this is an example of why Tom kept talking of numbers when breeding... when starting a population with less than 40 individuals, the odds of getting quality breeding material from the population goes down exponentially.

Fem seeds x a regular male have a tendency to produce mostly all female off spring.

I've seen it myself in crosses I have made.

I'm pretty sure Tom (or maybe Chimera) chimed in on the PP male thing in the CBG forum and broke it all down, but I can't find it right now. That thread is well worth the time spent reading it.
