Seeking help identifying Jamaican bag seed
Helllo All. Got 2 plants going from some Jamaican Bag Seed. one male still available. After a few hours of reading on Jamaican strains, i learned it can be quite a list of things since many genetics have been brought there in the past decades. I can only speculate what it is, an may never know what it truly is. Just the same i'd like some other input.
The Story: A Good friend was in Jamaica last December 2012 into January 2013. He stayed 35-40 days an trekked across the island, no resort stays here! They Stayed with fellow rasta musicians along the way. Every morning he would get his vegetables an smoke for the day. one day the farmer gave him " the best smoke he had since his visit to the island". with that bud there was 6 seeds. he had this smoke only once , the next day an every day he asked the same farmer for more, but that batch had came an gone. knowing my passion for growing, I was given 4 seeds. He gave the other 2 to another friend an they where male. Of my 4 seeds 3 popped, 1 male an 2 females. The male is still available. It seems to resemble charlie garcias photos of the Jamaican Blue Mountain. There is an identical photo. Very quick grower, clones very easy. Grows 2x as fast as many but not lanky. Her Leaves started out thicker an grew pointer an thinner with age. The calyxes have a cone shape to them, not tear drop. On most bud sites calyxes are symmetrical cones an the pistols are veryyyy straight an erect. Spikey ,Almost like soldiers standing ready!! Her smell is sweet an a little spicey, i swear i smell some haze influence in her. nice elongated colas. 2 plants are similar phenotype . First one in this message is what i believe to be the better of the 2 at this point. Pheno plant #2 only day 42 The last photo u can see the symmetrical calyxes an pistols i speak of. In 20 days i will take more photos with proper lighting. Input appreciated .... b-safe out there!!! |

jamaican genes are now a hodgepodge of genetics from North america, Europe and sSouth America. there's no real way to know
it's more likely than anything some kind of polyhybrid, you can tell by the pheno's shape it has lots of indica genes |

I agree with Jesse. Go check out pics of grows in Jamaica, you'll see a lot of 2' tall mini plants in a field. Definitely not what you would think of when you think of Jamaican herb. I think the sativa's have been pushed out for the sake of quicker harvest, same story that is unfolding all over the world where the best sativas used to come from, unfortunately.

Thanks for the input. i know what you both speak of. It def does not grow like an indica thou. and while i must admit the lighting will not change the structure, but they werent the best of pics. My photos Does not do the plant justice...
i had them running next to some nycd's from seed, an they outpaced them 1.5x-2x. tough for me to pinpoint smells off her. now i just got some rotten sweet smell an grapefruit musty haze/sandlewood. ahh whatever. im excited to say the least. something new, anticipation. atleast her finish time will help pin point better. b-safe b-safe. |

the plants look good but other than 'jamaican', it's impossible to tell what the genes are, you're right the finish time is probably as good a indicator as any you'll find |

In the long run i had to cut them at 55 days do to security reason, ( first issue in 7 years here) , i would have thought they could have gone to 70+ easily. the end product was very up lifting an motivating. The taste an smell was grapefruitish an veryyy distinct haze an sandlewood smell. earthy haze grapefruit smells.
I do have cut of her an i will resume this winter with running her. At this point i believe the cut is atleast worthy of running more tests. We named her Jamaican Machete. Will post in a few months if i do not loose her....... b-safe |
