First time planting a veggie garden. Way up 52 lat. Kids are all grown up and gone, so converted their old sandbox into a raised garden. Already had a meal of swiss chard . Still waiting on the peas, carrots and beans. Planted strawberries, but the damn birds got many before us, but have since covered them with wire, and now looks good. A pic from a few weeks ago.

Thanks for posting. Nice sandbox filled with veggies. Brasicas do very good up at your latitude. Broccoli, Kale, Cauliflower would all do very good at your grow. Have fun and keep it green!

Greens, root crops, cabbage family would be the backbone at 52N. I lived at 45N for 23 years and gardened the whole time. Sub arctic tomatoes, mainly Glacier might be doable. It's open pollinated so you can take the earliest nice looking one and save it for seed. Ace pepper is a hybrid but it was bulletproof for a green pepper if you could keep it away from rogue frost. We usually put out tender stuff in very late May, but that last late full moon had to be watched. It's fun to extend the season with cold frames, low tunnels, and starting seeds is easy with a shoplight and some supplies.

Johnny's Seeds specializes in growing in the north. So does Fedco. Both are top notch

Note to self. Stop wearing sandals in the garden or you will be attacked by red ants for a third time. Those little suckers hurt!

Thanks for the kind words and suggestions, I'll check some of that out. I know we won't be planting radishes again, they all have bolted. And the weather has been cool and wet which is what they are supposed to like.
Having some fresh lettuce tonight, anxiously awaiting peas and carrots.

growing carrots this year and they seem to be doing great. This one carrot weighs 1lb. Biggest so far, still have way more to dig up.
