Chianti Bong Build
I'm not sure if this is the place for this, but i'm posting it up.
I received a large bottle of Chianti wine from a relative. This bottle of wine is old, wasn't going to drink what was in it. The cork was so dry rotted, it took quite awhile to remove it. I managed to drain her and rinse her with a bleach solution to kill the wine smell. i used a dremel and a diamond wheel (with plenty of water)on it to cut off the top foot or so of the bottle to make for easy reaching to spark. (sorry about the sideways pic) after the cut i sanded the rough edge w/ dremel bits. started out w/ 60 grit, to 120, then finished her off w/ 220 grit sand block. then i proceeded to hit it with a wire wheel and polished her up. unfortunately i don't have the downstem just yet, it is on order. so any update will most likely be this weekend or later, depending on delivery of parts. the downstem will be 14mm ready, w/ a rubber grommet for the glass. any ?'s, feel free to ask. i have never done this before FYI, kinda winging it after some online tutorials.

so do you plan to attempt to drill through the glass? melt a hole?
or are you going to rig it all into the top? |

Nice Project! If i may lend a suggestion, I work at a commercial glass shop and drill holes in plate glass alot, If your going to drill it, the best way would be to get this bit or one like it, in the size u need.
https://www.toolup.com/dewalt_dw5578_...FQ9dQgodFRgArQ run it on a drill press and spray it with alot of water. if your going to drill it by hand i think this bit would be your next best bet. https://www.grainger.com/Grainger/BOS...ED8?Pid=search again as you know, the more water the better to keep everything cool. good luck ! |

imnotcrazy
It's not done yet, but getting there! (aslong as i don't break it) vintner Good to see you brother and thanks for swinging thru. I'm digging the design too. intotheunknown i have a diamond hole saw for the cut, just not sure what size i need to fit the grommet until it arrives. Stay tuned! PrimeTimeNugs Thanks for the pointers. I was reading up on those little carbide spade bits. More people than not said it would just break the bottles. Alot of folks drill out wine bottles to shove xmas lights in there, that's where i got alot of reading from to attempt this build. i will be using a cordless drill tho to do this, no press here or available. I will craft a cradle out of wood to hold her as i do the deed. milo xx Thanks man, you know you're always welcome in my threads

milo xxx
accessdnx thanks for swinging thru fellas!! got some more parts today and almost have this thing finished. Pics tools of the trade for drilling. 1/2" lenox diamond hole saw spray bottle after a few practice holes on other bottles, i was confident enough. i learned that high speed works better than low speed. grommet in, but the hole needs to be a little bigger to fit the slide. rotozip w/ grinder bit, then the sander barrel. like a glove! cont with etching...
