i'm sure you guys prolly answer this question all the time, but if i have a female in clone form and i want to get into seed form, can i do this (the following)?

i will take a random male and cross it to clone only girl. grow out the f1 generation and take all, or a selection of the best and dust the mom again. in that bx generation will i find a large percentage of girls that resemble the mom that i can then cross with the males from the f1 to find more females similar to the original mom?

since i'm excluding all the females in the f1 and using only the mom traits passed to the males won't that help me isolate the original genes faster since i don't have to factor any females carrying the traits passed from the original male?

One thing you got to look at is if the cut is stable, most cuts are F1 hybrids that show some trait that is often hard to stabilise in seed form.

I think you should work two lines (1)a bx and (2)breed f2,3,4 ect using females close to the mum in every pairing will allow you to get closer to her, its more guess work using just males though as you dont really know what they are passing on.

its hypothetical, i don't have any clone right now, but i had a seedplant once before i tried cloning, but i made some seeds using a random male, and of those i have 5 seeds. i would like to try and find the original mom again. but i can't do it like i suggested up there, i will have to mate the siblings and cross my fingers really hard for the f2 generation.

but if i end up in a similar situation in the future, i just wanna know is that a faster route than seeding a mom, growing the seeds, in crossing, back crossing and then incrossing again. can i skip a generation by not trying to select for mom in the f1 females and instead go to the bx1 and search for mom?

oh. i eventually asked in that "other" thread and tom told me it's useless (going backwards) to select for unknown male, easier to just surf for the moms with 1 male or do a reversal which is faster.
