Post About: Ken Father

The Ken Father clone, is an extremely beautiful plant. It originated from an old head in Mendocino region and found it's way to me by accident. It was supposed to be the Fire OG cut, but upon seeing it growing I knew it was something else. I contacted the source, who listened and, said, "Oh no - I wasn't supposed to send that out, but don't worry, what you ended up with is better." I was told just to call it Ken Father...and left it at that for a bit before I decided I wanted to know more. The plant was certainly special. After another pressed inquiry, I was simply told it was the "original GDP".

I was familiar with Ken's GDP and the Royal cut - this was far better than either. I also never bought into the origin stories given by Ken - as I remembered the mid-90's and what I remembered was this:

A very kush strain that purpled to a degree, but was more of a hue than full purpling. It was all the rage and went by the name "Gross Domestic Product". It was called this in jest because "currency should be backed by it". It was always limited availability and only around every few months. It had a very defined taste and smell - like kushy grape baby asprin - that people simply said tasted "purple".

Suddenly, there was a new bud on the scene floating around and being called "GDP". The flowers possessed the same distinct smell but were thinner, without the distinct kush profile, not as frosty or nearly as potent. To many "GDP" was an obvious acronym for "g"ross "d"omestic "p"roduct and there was a general concensus it was the same plant being produced by an inferior commercial operation due to the many similarities. This general notion was maintained for a few months until once again a REAL batch of Gross hit market and people realized it couldn't possibly be the same plants. Those pushing the bulk "GDP" had never actually made claims of it being the same plant but were glad to silently accept the market advantage that came being directly assocaited to a known highly desirable product. These commercial growers having lost their advantage as a result of a real batch of Gross appearing, began to distunguish their cut as "Grand Daddy Purps" - now openly claiming it was a new plant entirely. With consumers now aware of the two different cuts, the mass produced "Grand Daddy Purps" was being sold cheaper and the cut was available to others, flooding the market with an inferior purple.

Consumers desire to save a few dollars and their willingness to pay for the inferior version with a stolen moniker, ie "GDP", was too much for the originator of Gross Domestic Product to take...and it was viewed as a personal insult. The creator of Gross Domestic Prodcut pulled the original cut and flowers from circulation and people were left with the inferior bulk they had accepted in place of....

Ken Father, was called such, sort of jokingly to explain where "Grand Daddy Purps" had originated. It is assumed the female Gross Domestic Product had been utilized as a male and Ken...well, you can figure the rest of the story out...

Ken Father = original GDP = Gross Domestic Product. I promised I'd never S1 the plant and that I would breed her in a manner that kept her true to her purple kush heritage and was graciously given an "okay" to play around with her. Her offspring are very limited - but extremely dank. Ken Father is one of the best plants I've ever had the pleasure of growing. Period. It was truly an honor.
