Question about recessive genes and hidden traits.
So, I have a very basic understanding of breeding. I have been around animal breeding my whole life and my Mom is actually a well known breeder of new color mutations in certain avian species. From what I have seen first hand is that two somewhat bland or normal looking parents can produce offspring that are truly different. My Mom was always in search of new colors hidden in recessive genes and I was wondering if anyone does the same for cannabis. It seems that the "keep the best chuck the rest" theory omits sub par plants that may be holding recessive keys to something amazing.
Any thoughts on this? Thanks in advance

You are right on point! I do this by selfing the plants. I take 2 clones from the same plant and spray one with colloidal silver. I then pollinate the other with the now male plant of the exact same genetics. when I grow out the seeds I can see if their are any recessive traits hidden away.

That is genius Evol! You can't do that with animals LoL, without cloning at least...

recessive traits
both parents express the trait 50% progeny express the trait 50% heterozygous 1 parent express 1 doesnt or both parents heterozygous 25% express 2 out of the remaining 3 heterozygous not sure how precise that is {a little guessing involved} but it does work something along those lines co dominant is another i bred some animals 1 of which expresses a co-dominant trait to 1 expressing a recessive trait 75% of the offspring expressed the co-dominant trait 100% of the offspring are heterozygous for the recessive trait idk; thats what this thread got me thinking about

I am pretty sure many of us aspiring breeders and established professionals, are utilizing thes same techniques. Selfing that is.
