goldking's thai?
Anyone have the scoop on this girl? She's the thai in JJ's new Thai Girl strain. From what I've read, goldking had some original thai seeds from back in the day, but cant find any info on the plants themselves in terms of quality, potency, ect... The cross is Gold Kings Thai x Tres Dawg.
I'm pretty close to pulling the trigger

JJ made a little blurb in the Top Dawg strain index about her. You should've posted this in his section so he could see it

Seeds were found in some Thai stick in 1979 by a member named Gold King. He grew them and made seeds. I was gifted these seeds by CedarBerry Farms, so maybe he can chime in and give us some more info. I was told they were pure landrace F3 or F4's. I've grown these out and made some crosses. It grows kind of short and squat for a Thai, not super stretchy. It's managable. It doesn't even sex for a month and takes over 100 days to finish. It has that floral Thai smell to it and light haze tip. The crosses I made were Thai Haze (D Haze(Thai pheno) X GK Thai), Thai Girl (GK Thai X Tres Dawg), and Gold King Thai (GK Thai X GK Thai). They will be on the bay sometime soon.

Thanks for chiming in JJ. Those look like some very unique and awesome crosses as always. Hope to be running some soon, but I think I'm gonna have to wait for the Thai Haze... Glad to see the bay getting some serious Top Dawg action and lots of great top dawg info in the breeders section!

Been a long time since I posted, also been a long time since I was in here. On holidays for another week and thought I'd drop in. Found this thread by luck.
Haven't grown in many years, had other committments and been very busy anyway. I was a Mod on Merihemp forum for many years till it shut down. Goldking and I swapped many different strains with each other, including his Thai. I grew her out many years ago, about '98. She was one of the most indoor friendly thais I ever encountered, she did not stretch like other thais, and I've done many over the decades. Can't recall if I sent some of the kerns I made from the first run to CBF, I may have. Sent some strains to him years ago, but can't recall if this was one of them, he may have got it from GK himself, but can't be sure. I did send him some of my 'StrawberryFields sativa cross DJBlueberry' amongst others I recall, never heard how he went with it. Chris (Karl) from African Seeds loved it. I also sent seeds of this one to Dubi, he has it... well, he did back then. I told him it was 79 thai, he may not know it as GK's Thai, he never knew or heard of GK at the time. Not sure if he ever used it in any of his strains, you'll have to ask him. To cut to the chase, she is an excellent thai, behaves herself in height, don't need to rule her with an iron fist to keep her low indoors, wonderful aroma, fruit/spicey thai smell and strong long lasting STONE, great yield, yields like a good hybrid haze/sativa more than a pure that she is, and buds are NOT as airy as most thais. Some plants had surprisingly dense thai nugs on them. The pic you see is one plant, 6foot tall, the top half of her is in view, done in soil with VERY LITTLE ferts and a 6 week veg prunned twice and trained, just a little pot ash 2 weeks after she started flowering, NO nitrogen in veg at all, just good RICH organic aussie soil I made. I'm a stick-la for organics, never bought fertilizers off the self in over 30years of growing, and my plants would always yield fine. The pic did not do her justice, digicams with macro weren't around then, just used a normal/cheap camera I had, but it's enough to get the picture, if you know what I mean. Hope that helps, gotta go, take care and a good new year to all. 20' https://www.icmag.com/ic/album.php?a...tureid=1184280 |
