Question Chem IBL showing balls

When I bought the seeds I knew there was talk of the chem ibl and a few other rez offerings throwing balls and nanners. There was also some talk of the problem being remedied.

I really wanted a garlicky chem and from what I read I could find this easily in the IBL. I bought the seeds in the spring. Finally got around to germing them and put 4 of the fems in flower 19 days ago. Two days ago I found many balls on one and just a few on two others.

As of right now they are all still in the flower room. I'm torn on whether to compost all three that showed balls or maybe just the worst offender. Hopefully someone here can offer some experience.

I've worked before with strains that threw balls around 2-3 weeks on lower sites and then grew out of it. Does anybody have experience with the chem ibl behaving like this? I'd be willing to keep them around if I could expect to only need to check them thoroughly for male flowers for another week or so.

I'm not willing to deal with them if they will show balls all through flower. These are large plants in 10 gallon smartpots so it's really a waste and leaves empty spots in my flower room that I cannot fill atm. Which is why they weren't chucked immediately.

Some pics:

The last one is a mutation that several of 8 fems I have are showing. Anybody seen this in the chem ibl before?

Thanks for looking.

Hello van keef..... i have no experience with the ibl.... but... the one you said have alot of balls... i'd get rid of. The others with not many... i'd knock balls off.... but continue to watch... in my experience you should be fine, might even get late flower balls but usually there infertile. Good luck and continue to check plants

Thanks for the response dreaded.

I removed about 8 sites from one plant, 2 and 3 from the others - all lower sites.

I am going to check them thoroughly tonight and see if anything else popped up.

I should also add to the thread - Anybody know from experience with rez gear if I can expect these things to just throw non-viable pollen if I do miss one? Anybody with the opposite experience with rez gear?

at some point we'll sow some of em...who knows maybe we will find our holy-grail..

5-6 yrs ago we grew out some of his 'fem'd' basic kush... the 1st 9 seeds sowed were males...full blown...balls everywhere... the 10th seed was a runt and was culled...

I've picked a few balls off of Sour Diesel IBL, Strawberry Diesel and a cross I made with Sour Diesel. Only ever a few. No impact to the flowers and nary a seed. Usually would show later in flower. Keep the light regimen locked in. No light leaks. I also think a reducing daylight during flower will help keep the balls in check. Good luck.

When I used to frequent the site rez had a bit of a reputation as a pollen chucker. That is a matter of opinion but he does produce some gems in the process.

thanks for the response

The sour deisel IBL is the other one I heard was known for male flowers. Really hoping this was an early flower thing like I've dealt with before. Gonna cry if they do it continually - I got 8, well, 7 now in there.
No light leaks in my room or I wouldn't have made the thread. Not sure what you mean about reducing daylight or keeping the light regiment locked in.

thanks for the response

So I spent about 20 minutes on each plant checking every site for balls or nanners. I found none on the two plants that showed a few the other day and none on the one that didn't show any.

The one that showed a bunch the other day showed me a bunch more today. I picked out about 10 on bottom sites before I noticed balls all the way to the top of the plant. When I saw that I quit being clingy and decided the bitch was dead to me.

Wanted to post up some pics to illustrate something kind of interested I noticed the other day. While the hermie girl that got thrown out of the garden was one of the more vigorous out of the 8 fems, she showed noticeable delayed bud and pistil growth in comparison to the others.

My camera sucks but I think you can still see what I mean:

girl with lots of balls:

Yea, I knew I had to watch these and I'm glad I did.

Something else I noticed - I like to rub the smaller stems and then smell my fingers with plants when they're in early flower because it can sometimes give me an idea of the aromatic genes they're expressing. Out of the four that are at about day 20 the really hermie girl was the only one that didn't have a strong garlic funk about her stems.
She just smelled a bit citrusy and bland. The other three stink bad when you rub them. The one with that showed no balls has a deep garlic funk with ripe fruit overtones. I'm thinking she's my keeper out of the four. The other two that showed just a few balls have a pronounced sharp garlic stink.

I just put the other four fems from the pack in flower about a week ago. Three have variations of the sharp garlic smell about their stems while one has the blander citrus smell. It will be real interesting to see if that one shows lots of balls and or delayed buds as well.

I'll update then.
