Fish Emulsion?
I'm very new to organic growing and I was wondering...Could I use "Alaska Fish Emulsion" (5-1-1) for vegetative growth by itself, or would I need to add something else with it? Also, what would be a good organic choice for a flowering fertilizer?

It's doable...but u might lack a little on the K department. Maxicrop would be a good thing to get if you could. What is your setup? Are u using a potting mix...soiless mix?
If your using a potting mix that has some ferts already in it..u should be ok just to use the alaska fish emulsion. -Opt

I'm using that wal-mart brand soil - perfect mix or pro mix, I can't remember - I dunno if it has ferts in it already...
What about an organic flowering fert? Bat guano? Last edited by gr0wm4g3; 03-27-2006 at 06:31 AM.. |

Bat quano teas would be a option. Even tho i haven't used it..i've heard great things about Pure blend products. And of course people rave on the Fox farm line. You wont need a flowering fert for a while..so look around at what u can find in your area. And if your using the Walmart potting mix, u'd pry want to cut some additional perlite into it.-Opt

Alaskan 5-1-1, will work fine, I use it, and an occasional dose of mollasses.
Alaskan Morebloom 0-10-10, works fine also, but sometimes I'll add a little Cal-Mag, for any deficiecies that might occur. Martha S.

i tend to stay away from the alaskan ferts, as its owned by G. Bush Senior. I have heard some horror stories on how they make there fish emulsion. SO i normaly go down to my local Nursiery and pick some up. The bloom moore flowering ferts from alaska ferts, is not really organic and has lots of metals in it. Leaves a foul taste. Just FYI.

fish emulsion tends to encourage fungal infections in the soil.
it is made from fish scraps that are not suitable for human consumption, so it contains an unacceptable amount of mercury and other metals, as stated by SCF. |
