Quinoa tank

I'm growing quinoa in an LED-lit RubberMaid storage tub, just to see what happens.

Here it was a week ago:

And here it is tonight:

The cotyledons shriveled up pretty quick, the second pair of leaves either got burnt or got cannibalized for the past week's growth. Dunno what that's about, but the new growth looks good. I'm really happy to see secondary growth at the nodes.

Here's a closeup. Hey, it's hairy!

BTW that pluton sucked. We grew it outside-looked awesome, smelled great, everything but when dried, it had 0% high.

Just one. Planted two but only one popped, and anyway they tend to grow at least 3 feet high so I'm going to end up practicing LST on the poor thing, probably won't know what hit it.

I'll probably plant more outside this spring.

I love quinoa, but have never eaten it 'sweet', unless you count some of the Thai-style dishes I've sampled.

Quinoa, I think your quinoa's going to get lonely in there. Give it friends.

Did you know that quinoa is related to lambs quarters and spinach? That it will cross easily with them? Did you know that, currently in the United States, there *is* no approved pesticide for use on quinoa? Just like cannabis.

Grow report - week 3

Well, the quinoa is growing, so the LEDs are doing their job. The entire tank, with fan, is 20W, so I'm a little surprised.

In fact, you can see a bleached spot upper left where the leaf was up against one of the LED strips -- I think it must be a blue LED that does the bleaching, otherwise there would be a series of spots. The strips I'm using are 2 red, 1 blue, 2 red, etc.

Time to try LST on it... I'll eventually wrap it around the yogurt container that it's in, but didn't want to do too much at one time.

And here it is back in the tank, with friends.

High,
Nice quinoa plant.
I'm curious about how you came into possession of that plant? Was it created from a seed/grain in a store bought package of quinoa?

Thanks for taking a look!

Here's my source:

I mean, "Brightest Brilliant Rainbow"? How could you not?

It would probably work to grow from bagged quinoa that you get at the grocery store. Give it a try if you have some.
