They are sclerotia - not truffles. Ya'll sound like a bunch of custies.

Probably from p. Mexicana, and i can't believe people are eating these. How's chewing on a piece of wood taste?

Fyi sclerotia are alive and will sprout mushrooms under the right conditions.

Truffle is just a commercial appelation...
Different species available, P. tampanensis (also know as philosopher stones, the first truffles commercially available), P. mexicana, P. galindoi & P. atlantis.
If consumed fresh they are perfectly chewable, with a metallic, nutty taste...
