Statement From U.S. Attorney’s Office on Initiative 502 _12-5-2012
So we have this message today regarding 502, leaves things wide open for the time being. Still no word from Obama, I'd like to start a betting pool on when he's going to talk about this. wish I was in Twin Peaks right now passing around some of my recent Sour Diesel harvest and having a piece of pie at the Double RR...
Prohibition is falling in my lifetime. https://www.justice.gov/usao/waw/pres...Statement.html The Department of Justice is reviewing the legalization initiatives recently passed in Colorado and Washington State. The Department’s responsibility to enforce the Controlled Substances Act remains unchanged. Neither States nor the Executive branch can nullify a statute passed by Congress. In enacting the Controlled Substances Act, Congress determined that marijuana is a Schedule I controlled substance. Regardless of any changes in state law, including the change that will go into effect on December 6th in Washington State, growing, selling or possessing any amount of marijuana remains illegal under federal law. Members of the public are also advised to remember that it remains against federal law to bring any amount of marijuana onto federal property, including all federal buildings, national parks and forests, military installations, and courthouses. |

^^That's true it is a punt, but Obama is not going to use political capital for MJ right now. Members of Congress are the nitwits who need to do the right thing.
Punt is better than... ... Blitz, in this instance. |

Write your congressional representatives! THEY HAVE THE POWER! Not the president, not even the AG. It is within our houses, congress and senate, where the real power presides. And it is through direct vote that these people gain their positions. They still have to cater, at least for appearance's sake, to those who are directly voting them into office (Nancy Pelosi, for example, is only voted in on a local level, not state, not federal). These people can directly change the CSA, they can pressure the DEA to change scheduling, they can literally fucking legalize it NOW if they all simply agreed to do it. And each and every one of us is responsible for how they got their seats, not some vague notion held within the electoral college. Now argue to me that voting doesn't do a thing.

Reporting in from the Evergreen State (Washington) and living in Seattle proper.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wp8xfQaCA-4 We have all been really excited about this although it is a weak improvement, it IS an improvement. The social stigma and legal consequences for an adult to make an adult decision to smoke a little weed has been lifted. All you naysayers can go fuck yourselves. Sure you cannot buy it in the store yet, and you are not supposed to smoke it in public, but the trend referring to all pot smokers as a lazy bunch that are dangerous to have on the job site is turning. That alone is a major victory. Many people that have been reluctant to smoke it because it is illegal can feel free to take a puff when that joint is passed to them at that party this holiday season. And although it was illegal to smoke in public, at the Space Needle last night, Seattle's best known icon was the site of a major smoke-in. I am not sure what the reasoning is, as the law has suspended arresting pot smokers since November and December 6th is the day it is signed into law. That doesn't mean that at midnight it was legal, it means that on this day it is signed into law, a formal acceptance on paper of the voters will. Smoke clouded the air at the Space Needle when the clock struck midnight, there was cheering and laughter. Finally some peace and happiness in these uncertain times. I hope the smoke cloud wafts over to the other Washington so that these fools can see how a good many of the American public feel about this. I would like this day to be declared a weed smoker holiday, like 4/20. Many have been waiting for this day, and brothers and sisters, it is here and now. Rejoice and be happy. If you were reluctant to smoke a puff before, let go of it. Join the happy free thinkers in celebrating this wonderful day. Santa has come early.
