lets discuss sweet pink grapefeuits tendency to autoflower wen rootbound

Well yes... this exactly...
Lemme first say i love spg and sweettooth herb.... only had the pleaaure of smoking well grown samples of spg and swt3.... but iv grown blue sat 2.2.... and i had a few girls and guys auto on me after becomin rootbound.... but this is a limited experience....
for those of u who hav grown blockhead and lui and other swt tooth/spg hybrids..
do these strains also exhibit the auto wen rootbound trait?
For those of you that keep a mom of swt tooth or spg or any swt or spg hribds... do u find trouble with ur moms gettin rootbound and autoong on u? Is it a serious issue with all girls or jst some? Any close calls? Any advice on best way to work with them as far as container size/time vegged and do u take clones more often to ensure it lives on as a mom?
finally those of u who hav bred with spg or swt or its hybrids.... is it a good breedee? Also from the swt tooth line lets say i line bred it for 3 or 4 generations wuld i b able to bred out the auto wen rootbound trait or is that one jst not goin away

I have had SPG on and off since about 99. She is hard to keep. It is true, soon as the roots touch the pot she starts producing flowers. Its not the only trigger, inconsistencies in light regimen can also do it. I would imagine perhaps food issues as well, although I have never encountered it personally. Once she begins her flower the only way to get her back is to up pot, cut her back and watch get start at 1 leafs again. I plant in 1 gallons, move to 2 gallons, 4 gallons and finally 7 gallons to flower. Seems like a lot of work to some, but my work is part of my therapy. Sweet Pink Grapefruit is truly a special girl to me and I thank Steve and all the others who have helped my keep her over the years. Peace and love GS

So is Sweet tooth #4 very close to SPG?

I've noticed that it is a SPG Bx4/ 5?

Thanks for any info.

I've had a grip of strains that flower when rootbound. I would go further to say that I've been able to observe, because of how I grow, that the same strain will pretty much always flower sooner if it's in a smaller container as compared to the same strain being grown in a raised bed. This has always happened to me.

I say this because I don't think it's a SPG thing in particular, I think it's a plant thing in particular.

Looking at other posts, most notably Chimera's, the SPG doesn't become more pronounced through backcrossing. In fact this is the same with pretty much all varieties.

As GS has pointed out above.. Here's part of a post by Chimera relating to the SPG and backcrossing.

The main reason I prefer this line to the SPG backgross lines, is that the GF has some really negative traits that are amplified by backcrossing- like the root bound autoflowering that occurs when a root tip hits a container wall. It's why you dont see anyone keeping mothers of these lines... with the hundreds of thousands of seeds sold, you would expect people to still be running them... but because of the tendency for the mothers to autoflower, keeping moms of SPG backcross lines is a hassle.

There are better posts by Chimera about the SPG and sweet tooth #4 if you want to dig them out..

i hear what ur saying sea maiden, and i appreciate ur advice... but my last like 8 strain grow were mostly in the same size containers and only the spg cross(blue sattelite) autoed...
autoflowering wen rootbound imo and ime isnt a consistant trait to all marijuana plants. ive had many a rootbound girl, and honestly blue sat is the first to auto on me in this situation... and these were autos... they autoed after like 2 months.

this is exactly what happened to me with my SPG pheno of blubonic, looks absolutely killer, but the autoflower trait is a big negative.

I have had SPG for almost two years. I really like her, but keeping her around is certainly a major challenge. I usually have to clone her every 5-6 weeks. Chimera once told me dwc is a better way to keep her because she won't pre-flower as much. I personally have never tried the dwc method. I can see how it might help though.
