I've used it before instead of using rooting powder/gel and the cutting rooted fine,i just soaked aload of willow stick's in water for about 24 hour's then let the cutting sit in the water for 24 hour's then planted them in a 50/50 soil/perlite mix and watered them with the willow water when thay needed it and thay took 10-15 day's for root's to show out the bottom of the pot's.

I find using freshly grown shoots in some hot water and let them seep for a day or so is better.
It's not a miracle solution it's a tonic, every little thing when added up makes a difference. You can freeze it and add a couple of cubes to your plain water feedings.

Hello all,
Its 'choke full o' good shit. Willow is the highest naturally occurring cloning/root hormone you can get. It does not keep-I have heard about freezing both good and bad but I can't say for sure. I a big fan of using whats about you rather then buying. Oh, its not that I am cheap-I am being environmentally conscious. How-well, I could go out to my back yard and cut plenty of new growth willow shoots, strip the leaves and add to hot water and let steep for 24 hours. Or I could go and spend what would amount to 3 dollors in gas to go to the grow shop to pick up cloning solution and root stimulator. Spend money and polute the atmosphere causing green house gases which make a hurricane kill a bunch of people and devastate an entire coastline. Now, I would not want that on my chest would you? Willow shoots are best in the spring-more growth hormones. Wow, I wonder if they are in order with kelp? Give it a shoot. I have used it with success. minds_I https://www.bluestem.ca/willow-article1.htm

minds_I,
No, they don't do what kelp will do....I'm not sure whether using the willow water during vegg would work or not....It would help the roots, I guess....LC

Yeah LC, I googled it last night after I posted-rooting hormones are not growth hormoens.

Willow bark naturally contains salicylic acid, yes. Never used willards brand personally but I had a buddy who would drink the one for humans. Google Willards Water.

Since this post is back up from the dark ages and I am getting ready to make some willow extract tomorrow, maybe I'll document it a little.
As Terpz said above the salicylic acid is concentrated in the bark of the willow. There is a higher concentration in new growth but it is still available in older bark. Most of the versions of this I have witnessed were made with whole branches or chopped up branches, so a lot of pulp is still contained in the soak. I like to just skin the branch with a pocket knife. It looks similar to lemon zest just made of bark (maybe a zester would work too?). 2 cups willow zest 1 gallon water Let soak for at least 2 weeks. I dilute at 1/4 cup per qt. water to foliar cuttings and early veg. Does it help? No idea, sure doesn't hurt. Peace GC Last edited by growingcrazy; 01-09-2016 at 01:12 AM..
