Bubblegum Male dropping pollen in Veg
I have a bubblegum male clone (I grew from seed) and it's got huge pollen sacs growing under 24/0 T5 lighting. I have a power outage yesterday for 7 1/2 hours (only an hour and half longer than 18/6) and the damn thing dropped pollen in my veg room, I have never seen this happen before but the females of the same line do get a few pistils under the same lighting.

I just had some open on me over night as well... Some people say spray water over the plants, but I don't know what else to tell you. It's not like you can not run a fan ever, is it?

Well water kills pollen so in that respect they are right, but are you saying spray the male to keep it from dropping pollen or to to kill the pollen?

Hi,
This situation have been expess and we have found that CFL lights tend to do that with some of our strain. But this is a fisrt with BubbleGum. I will relate to our office. Kill the male is better if you do not want seeds. Respect Claude

Claude, thanks. I had kept the Bubblegum male around because I feel I have found a really special pheno of the Bubblegum and wanted to pollenate one to try to keep that amazing pheno around for awhile.
I ran 4 females 3 of them were pretty similar in structure, height smell. This one grows very much like a Thai sativa, has the most amazing and strong bubblegum scent and late into flower it fades to purple foliage. Truly happy with the strain just have never seen a male drop pollen in flower. |

Of course kill the male, and maybe clip some branches with flowers first if you want to collect pollen from the plant, otherwise, why would you keep it all?

Hi Grojak,
I asked Simon about your situation and the answer I have is: He says the T5-lights are NOT the issue here. In Canada we had somebody veg. ak-47 under T5-lights and they grew with weird mutated leaves...there it was a spectrum problem... Its hard to keep males which are ripening from opening their male pollen-sacks even when they are under 24 hours of light. At a certain age they just want to procreate and will open their sacks even with the lightest stress.... The guy writes in the thread he had a power-out and sudden darkness interrupting his 24 hour light period...thast probably what tipped his male to pollinate... Males will ALWAYS be faster in development of their sexual organs then females! Therefore its a risky business to keep the males in your veg.-room... Seriously Simon
