Hi All
Just wanna firstly give out some props to Female Seeds for doing a great job (IMO) with their beans. I've had great experiences with them, especially their Grapefruit, very yummy! Chec the pics... This girls was 12/12'd from from but did not yield much cause she was in a small 2L pot. Right now I'm doing another 12/12 from seed with Neville's Haze Hybrid, Cinnamon, and Northern Lights. They are all together in a soil mix in a 25L custom made pot under a 70W HPS and about 140W of warm/cool white CFL. I'm using GH 3 part series nutes which worked well for my GF grow. First up here's a pic of the whole lot together in my mini cab. Looks like a bit of a mish-mash in there so here's the breakdown... On the left is the Neville's haze She started flowering on the 19th Feb and is really stretching, there is good bud formation on her so I'm sure that she'll do good. This strain has a long flowering time (12 weeks or so), and you can see that I've toppped her and am tying her down to keep her under control. Next up is the Northern Lights. You can really see the difference here compared to the Haze, NL is indica dom so she will not stretch nearly as much as the Haze. I did not interfere with her and have left her to grow normally. The only adjustment I made was to angle her slightly away from the Haze to give me room to tie the Haze's long arms down. The NL has been in flower since the 19th Feb also so there should be about another month or so to go before the chop. Lastly is the Cinnamon. Now she/he is a little different. She only started flowering on the 12th March, which is a full 3 weeks after the Haze and NL showed their first hairs. This is not a bad thing cause it means that she should finish at roughly the same time as the Haze. I was a bit worried about my feeding schedule for these girls because I like to use water only for the last 10-14 days to clear chems, but the delay with the Cinnamon in starting to flower with her 10 week flowering period means that I should dnot have too much of a problem here ( I did not want to deprive these girls of nutes at crucial periods during flowering) One problem I do have is that it looks like the Cinnamon is a hermie! Have a look at this pic... You can clearly see the pistils on thise two shoots, but also you can see the two little balls at the base of those shoots. This is the first hermie I've had with Female seeds so I'm asking for some advice on how to deal with him/her. Looking forward to your responses and queries.... AFRICA

Hmmmm....That is my last resort option.
I was thinking of trying to remove these balls as they show themselves. The pollen sacks are very few on the plant... Another option was to gently remove the plant and repot it elsewhere... Experiences, anyone? |

The lights have just come on and I tested how strong the Cinnamon is rooted and it is not dug in too far.
I think that I'll remove it and plant it separately and let it flower outside.... I'll try to get most of the pollen sacks off but I don't want to take a chance by leaving it in with 2 good looking girls. Last edited by Blunt Africa; 03-19-2006 at 07:35 PM.. |

Basically someone advised surgery. Taking the immature pollen sacs with a razor blade. I'm not too keen on this as it is labour intensive, and damages the plant (Anyone with figures to prove that it won't affect yield?). I generally pull them, even though I don't mind one or two plants being pollinated as I don't have space or time to do a proper clone set up. I'd just rather pollinate with good genes, and keep a good dependable seed stock. |

Yeah, I reckon I'm gonna pull it but re-pot it and keep it outside for nature to do it's work. There is no chance of stray pollen gettingto my cab so I'm not worried there.
At least this way I'll still get to try some Cinnamon |

Hey dude, nice to see your plants.
I will be starting 5 Sour NL x Haze, 4 Cinnamon, and 4 Nev's hybrid in one week. I won't be starting from 12/12, but rather will veg for 6 weeks, take cuttings and attempt them outside in 2 gallon pots without any veg time. Please keep us up to date - I wanna see just how stretchy that Nev's gets. I figure if I dont' veg at all and top, top, and tie down I should be able to make little soccer ball sized bushes... we'll see. I'll be checkin' in, take it easy, Speedy. |

Nice one speedy, good luck.
I can tell you that the Nev has stretched quite a bit, and still seems to doing so. Over the past week I've had to tie down each of the branches to keep 'em from getting to the light. And I gotta feeling that I'll be doing more tying over the next few weeks. This train has a super long flowering period (12 - 14 weeks - Some have taken it as far as 18 weeks) so stretch will last a while longer. I'll keep you posted... |

DON'T PULL THE HERMIE DUDE!!!!!
first of all i wouldn't even be too sure those are male flowers you're looking at. they look more like preflowers, which don't necessarily look like female flowers at first. if i'm wrong and they are male flowers clip them off. clip all the male flowers you can find. the female seeds folks recommended this. they say that generally if the male flowers aren't allowed to progress beyond growing directly along the main stem that the plant is perfectly savable. i just finished a couple white rhinos that went hermie on me about half way through flowering. they ended up pollinating a few calyxs, but when i clipped all the male flowers off they didn't grow back. each plant yielded over 2 oz. too. just clip off the male flowers and see if any more grow. then make your decesion... |

It may just be my eyes sight is getting worse but those don't look like male flowers to me they look more like female pre flowers (pic is a little fuzzy), that and I have never had a plant that only produced 1 male flower all the male and hermi's that I have grown the male flowers grow in bunches like little green bananas. If they are male flowers either use a razor blade and cut them off or just use your fingers and pinch them off, if done when they first start growing they don't usually grow back and, it won't change you overall yield enough to notice.
