Blew Out a Spark Plug!!!
Damn...
Had the Excursion packed and we were heading up over the Sierras for my competition when all of a sudden...POP! At first Seamaiden thought we had blown a tire but it was a plug. Threads and all. Shit... Ebayed a TIME-SERT plug kit to rethread the cylinder head. Gonna be a busy weekend. |

Triton V-10. Apparently they're known for doing this as the head is aluminum. It's a damn great vehicle, but this seems to be a bit of a flaw from what I've read.

This happened to a family friend out on the trail during a snowmobile trip, spark plug blew right out of the cylinder. First time I ever seen that happen.

a wise old wrench told me years ago that blown out plugs were due to cross-threading when being replaced, he was probably right but 95% of heads were cast iron back then. I guess plugs can blow clean out of aluminum heads but it seems to me they'd blow out even faster if cross-threaded in those heads. an old friend stripped a spark plug hole on his Harley & put a heli-coil in it, lasted longer than he did....... |

Well honey, two down, eight to go! I wonder if there's an outfit where we can just rent one of those scopes, instead of dropping the dough ray mee on a new one.
Hello Jim. ![]() Apparently these Excursion motors are known for blowing the plugs. It already happened to us three or four years ago, but the mechanic who did the repair has since moved and we don't know where he went. He was very good and very reasonably priced, did a lot of extra work and charged a more than fair rate for it. So, now we've only got eight more plugs to go before the whole head is heli-coiled. |
