Bhaang adds flavour to Holi celebrations
Bhaang adds flavour to Holi celebrations
https://www.ndtv.com/morenews/showmor...srch=marijuana Yogesh Pawar Wednesday, March 15, 2006 (Mumbai): For all those who thought that buying and consuming bhaang is not legal in the country, higher sanctions seem to be available. "Lord Shiva is a great lover of bhaang, which is why it is distributed as prasaad," said Classical singer Soma Ghosh. "For me, Holi means a celebration of the adidev lord Shiva, so the best places to get your high are temples, ideally Shiva temples". Easy buy An NDTV team in Mumbai set about the task of finding bhaang, a hidden camera in tow. Its first stop was the famous Walkeshwar temple in south Mumbai, where lord Ram is famed to have worshipped Shiva. A local shopkeeper there said he was selling bhaang pellets for Rs 2.50 each. When asked why he did not keep fresh bhaang paste, he said he wanted to avoid any problems with the police. However, he was quick to add that the bhaang paste would be available near the Babulnath temple. The NDTV team had no problems finding the fresh paste at the Babulnath temple, and then outside the Ganesh temple in Prabhadevi. Divine connections Bhaang should technically be illegal, as it is made from the leaf and flowers of the cannabis plant which is also the source of marijuana. But it is too mild to count as a drug. More importantly, bhaang is too much a part of the Indian cultural, religious and folk fabric for it to fall under earthly laws. Some say the substance is meant to enhance the proximity to the divine. "Bhaang helps the mind concentrate better. In fact, it helps improve meditation," said Vinayswarup Brahmachari, a priest. "If the person is thinking of pursuing other bodily pleasures, it will help him perform better," he added. Little wonder then, that many swear by a mixture of bhaang, milk, almonds and flavouring herbs as the recipe for instant nirvana. But moderation is key, and too much could mean at best a bad headache, and in extreme cases, hallucinations. |

My former boss is Indian. I always wondered wtf that weird little candy/pastry/what-the-fuck-ever-it-was his relatives sent him was, he never described bhaang, just said it was a mix of milk, almonds, and Indian plants/herbs. Tasted weird as hell, and you DO get a bit of a buzz from it, as mild as it is

I was suprised when i disovered that they put milk in Bhang. Somehow it didn't sound to me like a good mixture. But, hey, who cares if it works.

The milk is used because of the fatty acids, it helps the cannabinoids dissolve into the mixture, kinda like butter does.

Yup. Hard to find sober people even in Defense Colony during holi celebrations. That's what made me exchange $6000 per month for $6000 per year in relocations. Finding cannabis here is easier than finding drinking water.
Nikjad: You probably had bhang laddu. Was it in yellowish green (dark grn) balls? Or just yellowish/ yellowish brown? If it's yellowish green (dark grn), it has bhang. Something like: At any rate, in most cases, in the edables are mild in terms of potency. The drinks made from cannabis are powerful, though. Try the bhang lassi. The best cannabis based ingestable item I've had (in terms of potency) by far.

South Asia: Indian State Government Sells Cannabis 3/24/06
https://stopthedrugwar.org/chronicle/428/punjab.shtml The government of the Indian state of Punjab is in the wholesale cannabis business, the Times of India reported Monday. The state government sells bhang, an intoxicating preparation made from the leaves and flowers of the marijuana plant, known locally as "sukha." The Times reported that next week, the state's Excise Department, which is responsible for allocating liquor licenses, will also allocate a wholesale "vend" of bhang in Hoshiapur district. The state government has set a price of about $7,000 US to a New Delhi vendor, a senior department official told the newspaper. "We supply the bhang to Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and certain other states in the country," the bhang vendor told The Tribune on the phone from Delhi. "We have set up a huge infrastructure, including a cleansing system, to collect bhang from hemp plants in the Hoshiarpur belt and to supply it to MP, Rajasthan and other areas in the country", he added. Cannabis is generally prohibited in most Indian states, but is commonly used in religious ceremonies such as the Holi festival in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and other states. It is also used for religious purposes in the Punjab. On the other hand, the Indian government's Narcotics Control Bureau has uprooted large tracts of marijuana plants in Kulu and Manali, where they are a favorite of foreign tourists, and has filed criminal charges against those found growing the herb illegally. No word yet from the UN's International Narcotics Control Board. |

Damn they really need to speed up the issue of those H-2 (bhang shop) licenses. Man, I sure could use a license
Another plus you get a HUGE personal consumption quota. 120 grams at any given time. No questions asked. And in Kulu, the problem is when you grow commercial quantity for export. Like when a farmer in a village has 5 fully airconditioned Toyota Qualis cars, eyebrows get raised no matter what. That too when the per capita income is $450 (national average). Unless you're involved in big time import/ export, nobody should have any problems. Now, you are talking about a 2nd / 3rd world country here so there is corruption...which is still better than prosecution. The smaller timers usually have to give the police a backsheesh, depending on how much money the farmer has. Flaking on this could kinda be problematic too...but it's handlable. Alot better than dealing w/ USA/ Thai etc police, that's for sure. And the UN can kiss my goat's ass if the protest because this is a domestic issue. Nobody issued licenses for mass export outside the country. That and the fact that the local govts. here never approached the UN for assistance on any domestic disasters/ problems...
