Cool tube wiring

Greetings,
Well I am looking at doing a cool tube system for my 400 watt HPS in my cab. I thought I knew how I was going to do it until I realized I had no idea what happens to the wires for the light.

I was going off the GrowFaq tutorial on building oneGrowFaq tutorial but they show doing the wiring yourself. The light I have has a nice prewired socket that just connects to the ballist. I really don't want to have to rip into that and make it more of a fire hazard by wiring it myself.

Does anyone know any way to use the cool tube set up with one of these types of light sockets?

It's going to be necessary to remove the pretty little junction box, I'm afraid. The socket has to sit in the airway for the cool tube to function properly.

Obviously, you want as little airflow restriction as possible, and that junction box might as well be called "fan killer" for the amount of airflow it will restrict.

Don't be scared though, it's just a coupla screws, and you know it's already wired correctly, so just take a good look at what is connected where when you pull of the cover. It'll only be three wires, so take a nice deep breath, and dig in

How do you wire into the ballist then? Do i cut the wire that current runs to teh ballist and wire into that?

NO you take the screws off the junction box cover, there is most likely 3 wire nuts in there holding the 3 wires together. Just remove them, then take the socket off of the junction box.

Then you can put the ocket in the tube with just the wires coming out, and little blockage of air flow.

Cool, thanks for the info! That doesn't sound too bad at all.

I had to do a Cool tube for my 2nd HPS tonight, so I grabbed a few pics to give you a visual of what we're talking about.
