Scott's potting soil
Anyone have an opinion on this stuff for starting seedlings? I've got some babies in this stuff (looks like good rich dirt), and I think it might be a bit hot for them- couple are showing signs of overfert.
One's got the classic burned/rusty/splotchy lower leaves, and another looks a bit droopy and the green is a bit too light green. May be an overwater issue, but that doesn't account for the burnt up leaves- I've given no other nutrients. Any ideas? If the soil is too hot, what does one do to correct at this stage? they're about 1-2 weeks old. |

picts plz
other than flush them and wait theres notmuch else you can do except Xplant them to a lighter mix the scotts in the yellow bags is what yer usin? it has added phosphorus but should work just fine for seedlings especially my advice without seein a pic is to next time, cut that stuff 50/50 with perlite and wet it down/let it dry up a few times a week for a few weeks in a container and keep mixin daily to aerate the medium and prevent the growth of detrimental mold and bacterium, this should 'cool off' the mix slightly.. how large of containers are you in? maybe TOO rapid a root growth? possibly rootbound? if theyre in 8oz cups they likely need xplant lol if theyre in 1 gallon cans its a different story..whats the score? again, the stuff thats labeled 'potting soil with added phosphorous' should be fine for seedlings. scotts also makes some other stuff with a heavy pelletized fert in it, which, you do NOT want to be usin anyway, for any smokable crops, imho.. plus its impossible to flush out of your containers :0 be well Last edited by CaptainJack; 03-15-2006 at 07:46 PM.. |

That scotts with phosphorus is good shit. That is my base in all of the soil mixes that I use. That stuff is one of the least hottest pre ferted soils going by far. I believe it is .01% so that is very little and it does help with the root system becoming established.

If you could answer the quetions CaptainJack it could really help.
Also did you add any perlite to that soil. That soil on its own is kinda heavy, so wihtout extra prelite or vermiculite for added drainage your roots are most likey sittting in heavy packed soaked water and cant "breathe" properly. Pics and a few more answers would really help. |

??Yeah CJ me too?? I guess I must have missed a lot! Gimme half of what Desi took.
Desiderata WTF does this have to do with the thread? Are you having some problems that may need Serious Attention? You need to step back from the ledge... take a deep breath ... and think about what you really want to say.
