Interesting
Worms may help too. Their burrows aerate the soil. I'm pretty sure anyway.

I have been doing that for about a year now and yes it help's alot. I had a heavy hand with watering and found this to help but a quick tip it works 100% better if you use a soiless medium with extra added perlite.
