"leader of the cannabis culture"?
https://www.canada.com/vancouversun/n...4284f2&k=47769
"A marijuana activist wanted by U.S. authorities to face drug charges said Thursday he thinks being profiled on CBS's 60 Minutes has increased support for dropping the charges against him on both sides of the border. "It's my job as leader of the cannabis culture to thwart the United States government," Marc Emery, Canada's so-called Prince of Pot, said outside the B.C. Supreme Court. "The American government and their war on drugs has got to Kafkaesque extremes." Emery is charged in the U.S. with conspiracy to launder money and distribute marijuana and marijuana seeds. Conviction on the charges would carry a sentence of at least 10 years in prison. He appeared at the B.C. Supreme Court on Thursday to set a date for the start of extradition proceedings, but the hearing was adjourned to April 6. During the 60 Minutes episode last Sunday. John McKay, the U.S. attorney for the Western District of Washington, said Emery was the "biggest purveyor of marijuana from Canada into the United States." Emery told Simon that while he's fighting his extradition to the United States, he's resigned to the possibility of prison and being a martyr for the legalization struggle. "I am blessed by what the DEA has done," Emery said. "I'd rather see marijuana legalized than me being saved from a U.S. jail." Emery says he has made $15 million over the past decade selling marijuana seeds online and by mail, along with equipment for growing operations and instructions on raising pot plants." |

Since the government (all levels) didn't mind taking their cut, and Health Canada referred medical users to his site for a source of seeds, I guess that makes them co-conspirators! As for Shipperke's question posed in the thread title, "leader of the cannabis culture"? I would have to say he is a leader and has a following, but I don't know if there is anyone who can claim to be, "The Leader". I think we are too fragmented with way too much infighting to be organized enough to have recognized leaders. Protostele |

He may be many different things to different people, but what he's not is un-involved.
A classic angry smart-ass that never quite was able to outgrow that part of his demeanor. If you watched the interview, you know what I mean. He has a habit of thinking out loud, to his credit and flaw. Leader of the Cannabis Culture? Yes, I do believe that's the name of his website. If anyone is gonna squirm outta charges it's ME. |

I think Marc has romanticized the whole thing and is willing to play it out. He sees himself in an American Jail and will likely end up in one as a result. I've been suggesting he consider a US Constitutional Challenge, based around God's promise to humanity in Genesis, "I give you every herb bearing seed..."
As for the leader of the movement, I like Marc, but he is not even the leader of his own life. The best thing about the marijuana movement is that pot its' self is the leader of the revolution! |

I think Emery is the prince of pot and has done more for the movement than anyone. Also his pot-tv is pretty innovative. Recent polls show over 50% of Americans think pot should be legal. With our jury system you have to find 12 people that agree he's guilty and deserves the life in prison. I say you can't find 12 Americans to agree on 'what's for lunch?' much less a man's fate. I say he has little to worry about even thoiugh he's 100% guilty. We are a country divided and both sides feel strongly on all issues.

I can't see your logic behind that one Dopey, (I was called Opie Taylor till I was in my 20s!). Medicinal marijuana activists and other good folks go to jail through Jury trials all the time.
I'm glad you liked Pot TV.... I ran it for 5 years, up untill the DEA raid. I stil post some of the shows and make sure things run smoothly. A very worthy investment, I am glad it survived the storm. |
