hello guys
i have been sitting and thinking of this for sometime and i wanted your opinion

i have been growing under a 400w deluxe hps which is a dual spectrum light

now the thing is the plants are alot closer than normal without getting burn
i was thinking that the bulb itself should be replaced but i had another thought in mind

if you use a 400w dual spectrum you will actually get less light intensity in the red spectrum than you would with a reguler one spectrum bulb

it's a simple law in electricity that you can't get more than what you take,meaning that if you have two bulbs that use up 400w per hour,if one has both spectrums than the energy should be devided by them and the imition should be actually less

any thoughts on the matter guys?

if you have 400W 250HPS and another 150MH (in the same hood)
then your pushing the 250W lumen specs down
while the 150MH is complimenting color range

it is not two bulbs in one ballast
it's one dual spectrum bulb

i beleive it's changing between each brand... try maybe to check on the manufactor website for the spectrum spec or something...
i dont beleive that 400w of phillips will get the same spectrum as hortilux or somthing else.

rootcap - i am not talking about the company
their is a list for hps and mh lights that shows ideal distance for each bulb wattage but no refrence to the diffrence between dual spectrum bulbs and reguler ones
it doesn't seem logical to be the same

ההבדל שאתה מדבר עליו אנגל הוא לא משמעותי ותלוי בזן יותר מאשר המנורה בעיקרון יש הבדל קטן שמדובר במטאל הליד אבל לא בין רגיל לדואל זה אותו הדבר

אם אתה מדבר על הטבלה של המרחקים של המנורה מהצמח אז נראה לי שזה יותר קשור למשנק.
אף פעם לא בדקתי את זה, אבל יכול להיות שמשנק נל"ג פשוט מוציא יותר מתח למנורה מה שהופך בסופו של דבר לחום ובגלל זה נראה לי שמומלץ להרחיק את המנורה... שוב, מחשבה שלי, לא נראה לי שמנורת 400 וואט יכולה להגיע לעוצמת אור כמו שמש בשום מרחק...
אבל יש משהו בשאלה שלך...

I'm sorry man, I wish my hebrew was better and that I could write and read very well! at the moment though, I can only write and read in hebrew the words that I know, which are not a lot but I do try to read every post that is written in hebrew as a form of study.


angel, I think your question is a valid one. the only way I can see to get an answer is to find the penetration distance of each spectrum, and see which one penetrates the worst, and so the distance should be dictated by the weaker spectrum. even though this could cause problems with bleaching or burning if placed too close to try to get that weaker spectrum down on the plants as much as possible.

even though dual-spectrum hps, only have a little added on the blue-spectrum, its blue spectrum is not comparable to a mh, it is much weaker.
