Native Americans hail rare bison as sign from spirits



Here’s one bison that won’t end up as a burger. An extremely rare white calf was born last month, not on a range where they’re known to roam, but on Peter Fay’s farm in Goshen, Connecticut. Some Native Americans are hailing the birth as a powerful message from the spirits and are traveling to the farm for naming ceremonies at the end of July.
The calf, which looked “like a ghost” when it was born, shocked Fay, as did the ensuing excitement. Huge crowds are now expected to visit his farm, and the field is being guarded around the clock to protect the pale wonder.
White buffalo is an American bison (American buffalo) that is considered to be sacred signs in several Native Americanreligions, and thus have great spiritual importance in those cultures and is visited for prayer and other religious ceremonies.
White buffalo are extremely rare; the National Bison Association has estimated that they only occur in approximately one out of every 10 million births.

That would be pretty rare, I think population size was estimated to be about 30 million before the arrival of Europeans and others to the Great Plains.

My wife follows the white buffalo culture and was very disturbed when the last was murdered recently. When this one was born so quickly after it did feel like it was a sign.

The whole family, calf, cow and bull, were killed, if I recollect correctly, yes? I couldn't believe it when I read that. So now there's another baby? Same ranch, or what? How will it be protected from harm?

myself, grew up near an indian reservation in Arizona..heard lots of stories and prophecies until I moved away..skinwalkers, white buffalo prophecy, the blue star prophecy, the twins, all that stuff..

I remember an old native american gentleman, probably Navajo or Hopi..once told me that when a white calf is born, there would be peace in the land for a short time, then trouble would come...the other thing he told me was the when the trees start to die (beetle kill, etc...), the end would be near...he believed that the next world was to come, the 4th world ?..very cool stuff indeed.

there was also the story of the man who saw the end of the world...somewhere around the 4 Corners (Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado), there is a portal that will play a part in the end times..this portal area in the 4 Corners is a safe Haven supposedly..anyways, this man sat on a plateau and had a vision..the vision was of the end of the world..kinda scary, but I can't remember any details because this was told to me when I was about 13 years old.

Whoa. We just drove through the high country yesterday and I was stunned at all the dead trees, and others look very stressed.

Best horse trainer I ever got the chance to spend a bit of time around was a Navajo man who specialized in problem horses. Taught me some tricks, oh yes.
