Thoughts on DIY

Been thinking about a project with the following parts. Would appreciate thoughts and feedback.

https://www.mouser.com/Search/Product...A20110P00H00E7

https://www.mouser.com/Search/Product...y897-LZ440R300

https://www.mouser.com/Search/Product...y897-LZ440R200

https://www.futurelightingsolutions.c...sFLS=true&IM=0

Was thinking 6 white on one driver and 11 Deep plus 4 Far Red on another.

Spread over something like this...

https://www.heatsinkusa.com/products/...-Heatsink.html

Not a big fan of soldering but think I could handle 21 diodes. Any help with sizing of the heatsink also appreciated. Would be happy to size up the sink to keep it passive if that is reasonably done.

I'm in the middle of putting together something similar, except that I am just using the 660nm led (5 of them) and the LedEngin cool white leds (4 of them). I think that you might have a hell of a time mounting and soldering that Cree unless you can find some pre-mounted on MCPCB's. I've used HeatSinkUSA before, and they are good to work with.

I'll look around and see if I can find a link to the heat sink spreadsheet that I used - it seems to have worked out pretty well for me.

Not sure what you see as a problem with the Crees, they are 22mm sq, larger than the MCPCB that the LEDEngin come with.

Thanks for your assistance.

There may not be an issue with them at all, I've just found the loaded MCPCB's are much easier to deal with. Are you planning on gluing them down? I've found it easier to make the soldering connections before mounting the LEDs to the heat sink - it is very difficult to get things warm enough to solder after they are mounted, but if you are gluing them down the leads tend to get in the way if your are using a template to get the LEDs set.

OK. thx. I liked those Crees because the are large like the MCPCB and hopefully will be easy to work with, plus they will run at about 30W each so wont need many.

Aware that soldering after attaching to the heatsink is a fools errand, figured a cardboard template first then slide them onto the sink for gluing.

I think that for flowering, the warm whites have the best profile, don't think more blue is necessary.
