what's up guys? got a pack of cv's garlic breath i'm gonna be running and i figured this is as good a place as any to document it. i put all 10 in a paper towel about 24 hrs ago, and i've already noticed a few beans starting to crack. this should be a fun run. i'm anxious to see what the thb x chem d can do. i've ran crosses with chem d in it, but the thb is a first. i'm hoping i can find some good keepers for a vert sog. i think a thb pheno would be good for it but we'll see.

the setup for the run....

100% organic soil less mix. i'm using my recycled soil from previous grows (3 little birds mix). no bottled nutes, or pesticides.

600w of cfl's on a diy fixture
6" inline exhaust fan

flower tent.
8'x6'x7'
4 bookshelves capable of 18 plants per rack
2 1k ballasts
4 1k vertical bare bulbs (2 hps, 2 mh conversion)

12,000btu portable a/c
8" inline exhaust fan
2 honeywell fans for the bulbs
diy carbon filter
drip irrigation (not fully complete yet)

the lights are stacked and flipped to run 1 bulb on each side of the room, 6 hrs for each mh and hps. i'll have 2k of light going for the full 12 hrs, using 4 bulbs. when 1 hps is running, a mh will be running on the other side of the tent. this way, no plants will be starved of light on either side of the room, plus they get residual light from the other 1/2 of the room.

have some other strains going atm in both veg and flower but that's for the other journal...the pics of the flower room are to give you an idea of where they are going to end up...

thanks for stoppin in GO. i'm hoping it'll be a stress free run. trying to decide which way to sex, and flower. probably would be best to top/clone em and keep the fem clones that way i don't add more veg time to the initial batch, and still keep em short enough for the racks. it'll also give me time to sort through sexing and to look for the keepers. yeah i think i'm gonna do that lol.

as of today, 9 of 10 have split the shells. 4 or 5 are showing tap roots, and will most likely be put into solo cups tomorrow or the next day. the rest will hang out in the baggie until they're ready to go. been insanely hot here lately, (my central a/c can't keep up and it's hitting 90+ indoors) so i'm unsure if the heat has played any role in the germination. either way, things are progressing so i'll be updating as things go.

I noticed some of mine were slow to germ but they all did. Just give em time. Glad the others have cracked for ya. Temps definitely effect germination I found that out last summer shit sucked. Can't wait till ya get em going should be a good run. They reak even in veg so far.

if it really smells like garlic i'll be good with that. speaking of stink, i've noticed either my fan is too strong for my filter or my carbon filter is about used up cuz i'm smelling the goodness in my a/c when it runs lol (and my landlord alerted me to it's presence). i'm hoping it's the fan. if it is, i can always dial it down. i don't really want to be having to upgrade the filter already. if i do opt for an 8" filter i can always throw the 6" diy 1 in the veg side. sounds like i may need to anyway lol.

I normally have the opposite problem, it's too cold where I am to germ in the towel without a little help from the water heater or another warm source.

I wouldn't leave them in the towel too long if they are showing a root, the quicker you get them into soil the better.

thanks for stopping in tgh. i usually leave em until the tap is about a 1/4". the longest one in the pic would usually go in a rapid rooter or a seedling mix today, but i'm gonna let it go until tomorrow. i have an easier time controlling the moisture levels in the paper towel than i do in a solo cup. this way i know once it does go in the cup it's 99% of the time gonna see light. i've tried throwing em in dirt as soon as the hull cracked only to be digging them up in a week wondering where the hell they were.

i usually stick my baggie on top of my stereo for a little heat but this week was insane. when i grabbed the baggie during the days it felt hot to the touch, that's why i eluded to it may be being too hot and slowing em down. any other time the baggie is warm, yesterday it felt like it was a popcorn bag.

Good man, just thought I'd say something in case.

A trick I learned was to use a jar instead of a baggy. Roll up your paper towel with your seeds on one end and fold closed the other so that they are sealed. Then just add water of the appropriate temp, enough to leave a thin layer of water on the bottom of the jar and then seal. The seedlings respond to the drainage of the towel thanks to gravity just like if they were in soil, and it keeps them at an even moisture level the entire time. The jar is easy to keep at the temperature you need it to be. Keep rockin' that towel

Yeah your going to need to get that smell issue sorted before you get the GB in there cause they are some stinky mofos. Check out that 8" 45lb Carbon Filter on HTG, that is what I have and I dont have smell problems and it was affordable. Sounds like our carbon in your current filter is beat but that is just a guess.
