July grow contest entry

It will take a bit longer than a month to finish this. A newly aquired Papaya to replace bagseed. The room was dialed in for sativa bagseed and this is pretty indica sounding.

Should be an interesting grow.

Cloned off a heavily infested dirt plant, the spider mites were killed by hand during thrice daily inspections with magnifying glasses, insecticide almost killed the mother and couldn't chance it.

800 watts of CMH at 40" for clone, 110 watts per square foot but far enough back not to cook. Clone/veg closer under same lights with added UVB on the sides.

Full veg in a test room with 350 watts/square foot high altitude effect lights. Took awhile to get toughened up, but day 12 with the bright lights and going OK.

12/12 room starts July 1, which is why this is the July entry.

pictures in order:
1. Newly transplanted into 5 gallon bucket of rockwool.
2. Picture taken with cfl lighting.
3. The 350 watts per foot setup. Two 357 Magnum Plus, two Mastercolor CMH, eight 2% lizard lights, four 10% lizard lights, four red aquarium lights. All focussed on a 2' by 3' table.
4. Azatrol is a neem oil extact, almost killed the mother, two weeks later and just starting to replace leaves, way too strong for clones.

These were file photos taking us up to four days ago.

Sounds like a great show coming soon!

Keep us posted as to how it's going... and remember, you have to get your moderator to nominate your grow for the contest!

Peace, and happy growing!

OK, this is a first for me. Fair warning though, the 12/12 room was designed around a full year's testing in a room similar to the test room used for vegging now. I tend to get lost in technical detail sometimes, some like that, some don't.

Front and back day 12 in the high altitude 18/6 room. The pictures will all be taken in this format, the clothespin will be in the same relative spot. A CFL just for pictures will also be a constant.

Growing since 1999 and this is my very first name brand late model plant.

Also both rooms are heavily LED, just under 50%. Sidelighting runs about 50% also.

See, too much tech already. Pictures were taken ten minutes before posting.

Plant has not changed overnight so here is some of that tech in the new veg room.

1. Umol of light. For comparison outside on a hot clear day (yesterday) close to summer solstice the umol from the sun was 1900.
2. Umol without the LED's on. Wow, that is where the power comes from and 30% blue. The CMH's are mostly green with way more red than MH, but still mostly green.
3. The fluorescents don't put out much, but the UVB is measured in uw (microwatts) and only have 50 uw for vegging.
4. With the lights off the camera can point right in. The LED's have a 5 degree beam and are angled in to focus on the plant. Gives that big photon count. The CMH puts out long wave red and infrared, the rest of the spectrum helps but that 850 through 1100 nm radiant heat is it's mission in life.
5. The end lights are vertical as most of their light is more beneficial to the underside of the leaves where the MJ puts the sunscreen. No UVB barriers on top as that interferes with feedlight absorption.

Visible in the first three photos is the horizontal 10% UVB, also hitting down low.

Bud room is completely different, but not there yet.

A painting may be cool, but watching paint dry does not get the heart pounding.
Two days of growth since last set of pictures, minor changes. In case the changes are not noticible some pictures from overhead. The floor and ceiling were removed for an 8' indoor plant.

The angle of the LED shows fairly well, the plants are dead center under the CMH's.
This shot did not turn out as expected, but I like it, sunshine under the lights.
Last shot because it was there.

For nutes 70% strength is used to make up for the higher water flow through in the plant.

.

The plant grew pretty fast and not knowing how much more growing will happen with 12/12 it got put in the budroom 06-24.

The mom with the spider mites and double dosed with insectcide started putting out buds at the same time as dropping half the leaves. Kinda looks like an HPS grown plant.

It is a 5 container perpetual room and a variety of shapes and sizes coming in. Single plants in each one for the time being.
A 2 week younger clone with a week's less veg time and in a tall skinny container was put in today, a short fat square container next in 5 days. Spacing them out so as not to be overwhelmed by harvesting. But essentially these are all side by side container shape tests to feel out the plant. Multiples will be after.

Well, this certainly is not working out per plan.

The veg plants are growing as fast as they possibly can. All the literature says 1500 umol at 86 F and 40% RH is the maximum the leaf can use, all other parameters being equally perfect. No, its not perfect, but good, the 1567 umol the center plant is getting is not causing burn. The table is in a 700 cubic foot room with 3000 CFM air exchange. 20 square foot active intake, 40 square foot active exhaust, air velocity is acceptable.

The lung room exhausts with 5000 CFM but has to take care of the 12/12 room also. New to the 12/12 room is a 28" ceiling fan blowing down from the center of the 5 LED modules, the smooth low velocity air gave the room another 3 degrees down while replacing 4 high velocity fans at the same time. A lesson learned and carried over from having to cool 380 watts/foot in the new veg room. This is the updated picture of the 18/6 light level. https://www.icmag.com/ic/attachment.php?attachmentid=173259&stc=1&d=1341552195

This is causing growth too fast to keep up with on the tiny table. The plants are getting moved with a bit less veg time than planned. The clear blue container (4 gallons) is for watching root growth, the roots hit the sides 8 days after transplant from clone cup. Without the LED/CMH together it takes 12 days.

The new fan is making one of the largest single differences yet. Matched only by the 12% UVB T5's found in the UK, actually had an ear peel from a two hour exposure at 15", but this fan is different.

The floor to ceiling air temp differential has been 10 degrees in summer and 30 degrees in winter. This has gone down to under 4 degrees and eliminated 6 high velocity fans at the same time. And the smooth airflow has every leaf on every plant swaying gently.
This is not creeper weed enhancement, but all lower buds with better temps should grow bigger. And cooler top buds should grow better also. Time will tell on that.

Life got in the way?
No, life has been there since birth.

The title will be a reminder for me to be more humble.

Meanwhile I do enjoy this. The Veg room at 380 watts per square foot has a 42" ceiling fan. The blades were even with the top of the lights as this room vents out the top. Dropping the suction point to even with the bottom of the lights dropped 2 degrees as well. Every little bit helps.

The plant this started with, still has the clothespin under the foliage. It has been 39 days so the top cola was worth a shot.

The LED on top of the plant is turned off. The LED's are in a circle and canted 30 degrees, the top edge of the cross beams just touches the remote temperature sender.

Not sure why the last shot is there, must be liking low pictures.

Still vegging? Looks like they are getting larger.

Have you tried playing with the white balance feature on your camera to get the lighting to look more natural in your images? It's hard to look at purple buds and leaf...LOL!

Unless of course, its real Purple growing!

Good job, keep us posted!

but .... :) we cannot afford such toys or at least most of us .... in other way it looks like dream grow but again it's for rich people not for regular growers

Oh I don't know Phaeton is pretty regular...Most everything here was bootstrapped up from other projects of his..just like my first 400 grew into my 1000 watters now..IMHO of course
