Lightbulb Can I run a 250w bulb with a 400w ballast safely?

I have a couple sun system 400hps ballasts. I want to go to a C13 for awhile. My ballast says max w is 400 but not "use only 400w bulbs". So I am wondering if I need to buy a new 250w ballast for my C13 or if I can just plug a 250w bulb into my 400hps ballast and have it run as safe and efficently as a 250 would.

Thanks Jnuggs

Marimbas - Your an ass,
I did search, 250w into 400w, and got nothing.
You should worry more about landing your sausage fingers on the correct little buttons and less about lecturing others......

hahahaha man i loved it sausage fingers!!!

Oh well,,, you cannot run any bulb - lamp, of a different wattage than the ballast.
It can run too hot and finnally explote, you can burn your house down.
it can ruin the ballast, over heat it and drip..
this is one example

Lots of bad things can happen from doing this. It has been asked lots of times, and always is the same answer, you cannot use a X wattage light - lamp, in a Y ballast.
It has to match!.
