I was making some ISO today (Ive made it quite a couple times), had the heat a little to high when I was evaporating the alcohol when suddenly BAM!!! 3 foot flames on my stove

Luckily I managed to get the skillet I was using outside before I burned my house down, but I did burn my hand in the process. Not to mention the ISO was ruined :( It was INTENSE, running through the house with a skillit ON FIRE with 3+ foot flames bursting, trying to keep the thing as far away from my face, yet trying to not catch anything on fire!!! There is a thin line between burning the house down and effectively speeding up the evapotating process, as I just found out

So let that be a reminder to anyone out there that is making ISO, USE EXTREME CAUTION!!!

Thats usually how all those house fires start. If theres a next time remember to keep a lid around. A good fitting lid will extinguish any fire and save you the richard pryor marathon thru the house.

Jesus - I know how you feel once when I was about 14, we decided to try to make Napalm using the tried and true technique of adding Ivory Snow to Boiled gasoline. Man was that a dumb idea....

A flame kicked up over the lip of the pot and the whole thing burst into flames... I burned the shit out of my hand and scortched the kitchen ceiling, not to mention the porch and grass where I had to throw the pot of flaming gasoline.

Lesson is - use electric heat!

Hope you are alright - I know your adreneline was through the fucking roof. The above is one of my better youth stories....

Yes I am glad to escape with only minor burns on my hand and the house still intact. I didn't want to let it evaporate on its own because its the middle of winter and that would have taken forever. At least 2 or 3 days.

Funny thing is, I actually did have a lid right next to me but I panicked and opted to move the 3 foot fireball. Brilliant!!

I use a lid-boils off fast enough. I have also used fans.

If that should happen again, Just calmly pick it up and set it on the floor away from shit. The best thing is a lid-but you know htat now.

Sorry to hear about you loss and you save of the house.

happened to me 1 time.. i just switched it over into the sink with water running turned on the air hood

keep a few classes of water now when making oil

i use a double boiler... kind of a pain but for larger runs try a bathtub with hot water, and a few pots of boiling water
