building my first PC

so im new to this whole thing completely. i know how to use a computer and all the basics but its kinda like my iphone, there's so much untapped potential if i only new all the secrets haha.

my main goal was to build something that could handle D3. im not a big computer gamer but i have always been a fan of diablo from the beginning. when d2 came out i had a compaq that had a 3gig hard drive lol. sure enough, it couldnt handle it lol. i know im a few weeks behind on the launch date and im many levels behind my buddies at work so i have some major catching up to do!

anyways i went as nice as i could for as cheap as i could. got a decent graphics card, a SSD and a decent processor im my price range all goin into a in win micro atx dragon slayer case which will all be lit up GREEN since we are all on the green team here at icmag haha.

i do not know a whole lot about computers as of yet but im hoping with this build something will spark my interest and the knowledge will flow.

here's a pic of the case lit up in blue i found online

Building your own is a fun project. You learn allot about the different peripherals you can get...I have built a few myself. Put quality components where you need them. Processor,Ram,SSD,Monitor,Ethe rnet card/wireless wifi, a good game controller. Anything you save put it into a upgraded component like video card. Good Luck

What motherboard are you looking to go with? I'm building one also and I'm using a AsRock X79 Extreme9 motherboard, with the G. Skill Ripjaws Z series 64GB Memory card. And I'm putting it in a Carsair Obsidian Series 800D Case

mine is an asrock as well but just a cheap intel board. the buddy that helped me with the build is EXTREMELY budget mindful and he didnt seem to keen on my spending extra money lol. he's probably right in my case. its my first and i dont do anything too crazy with my pc's. icmag, d3 and the occasional cruise on pornhub haha
god bless the internet

Why on earth would you ever need 64gigs of ram? Did I read that right?

And building computers is fun, basically an adult lego kit.

Ever heard of a RAM disk? There is software capable of turning your RAM into usable disk space which is several times faster than even SSD's. Of course to retain that data in-between boots you need to save it to a more permanent storage medium such as a HDD or SSD.

My first PC I built took me about 3-4 hours of carefully making sure everything was right. After 20 minutes of inspection I was ready to press the button. So I held my breath and did it. And nothing happened. I just sat in disappointment for like 2 minutes, staring and thinking I had a defective part. Then it clicked, I forgot to switch the power supply on.
