Keep a working smoke detector in your growroom.

I've said it for years. Keep a working smoke detector in your growroom at all times. I just may give you the few extra seconds you need to get out alive.

Just having a Fire Alarm will just give you an audible signal that you should have purchased a Fire Extinguisher as well, a few minutes before the Firemen and Police arrive ....

With your own extinguisher you can play Fireman yourself and all the nasty people do not need to come over and ruin your life.

If the fire extinguisher is inside your growroom you may not be able to get it in case of a fire in there. Keep it outside and accessible from a good distance.
^^^CC is correct. If the fire department comes in they must investigate what caused the fire. They must also report anything illegal in there to LEO.

You can use a Kidde smoke detector to power off all the ballasts and and the fans and exhaust. The smoke detector cannot switch a relay but when it's wired to Kidde SM120X relay module. Daisy chain a few smoke detectors together, they're only about $40 each, two in each growroom, one above the ballasts and maybe the electrical room. All you need is some 14/3 wire, octagon boxes, fittings, etc, and it's all done.

If someone wants one built, let me know. It's pretty straight forward to wire the smoke detector and the relay module together. Some of the other devices from Kidde like carbon monoxide, heat detector, etc can be linked to the relay module.

A trigger cord from a timerboard or powerbox can also be plugged in to the smoke detector.

I used to keep a fire extinguisher in every corner and a big one outside the room. Whats a couple hundred when compared to repair bills, or worse, bail.

Better yet get an automatic extinguisher and mount it in your room. best 100 bucks you can spend.
