Oakland California police arrested 11 suspects and seized 2,500 marijuana plants during a raid of a heavily fortified warehouse in East Oakland on April 25th.

This shows that illegal cannabis operations won't be tolerated, especially in a progressive city that has legalized dispensaries and huge grow ops. I saw pics on TV of the warehouse and the police had to break thru a huge iron gate to get into the area. - Skip

Oakland police, including members of the SWAT team, converged on a building on the 900 block of 89th Avenue on Wednesday night. Officers seized the plants, 50 pounds of dried, processed marijuana, $40,000 in cash, four handguns, a shotgun, two assault rifles, two sets of body armor and a ballistics face mask and helmets, said Assistant Chief Anthony Toribio.

Ten men and a woman were arrested. The suspects, whose names were not released, could be prosecuted in federal court because of the size of the operation and because of stricter sentences upon conviction, Toribio said.

The city had not designated the operation as an authorized medical marijuana dispensary, police said.

"This is one of the largest marijuana recoveries in recent years in the city of Oakland," Toribio said. "This was a well-organized marijuana factory," complete with high-end video surveillance equipment, he said.

There were two "substructures" within the building, one for growing the marijuana and the other for drying it, Toribio said.

OAKLAND -- The Alameda County District Attorney's Office charged 11 suspects Friday in connection with a police department raid of one of the largest marijuana grow operations in city history.

Each suspect faces felony crimes of possession of marijuana for sale and cultivating marijuana, but the suspected leader of the grow operation, Adrian Orion Papajohn, 35, of Oakland, was also charged with six counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm and one count of being a felon in possession of ammunition.

The charges stem from an Oakland Police Department raid of a warehouse at 925 89th Ave. in East Oakland on Wednesday night during which police found about 2,500 marijuana plants, 50 pounds of dried marijuana, $40,000 in cash, six guns, ammunition and numerous body armor items.

The guns included two assault weapons, a shotgun and three pistols. The body armor items included two ballistic helmets, two sets of body armor and a bullet-resistant face masks.

Police said earlier this week that the site was not a city-sanctioned operation for the cultivation of medical marijuana.

In documents filed in court Friday, police said Papajohn, 35, was the leader of the grow operation and employed 10 others to help. Papajohn has a 2001 felony conviction from San Diego County, where he was found guilty of receiving stolen property.

Police described the grow operation earlier this week as one of the largest they have uncovered in the city's history.
Officers, including the department's SWAT team, descended on the fortified warehouse Wednesday night and arrested all 11 suspects without incident.

Inside the warehouse, police said they found a sophisticated grow operation that included separate rooms for growing, drying and packaging the drug, as well as lighting and ventilation systems.

The warehouse was also heavily fortified with reinforced steel and a security system that included surveillance cameras in almost every room. Police also found living quarters in the building....

I have a big problem with cops busting innocent medical patients or people who are growing their own personal supply, I don't really see much of a problem with this. They were stretched too far and had it coming.

I'd love to see pics of the operation, sounds pretty intense. 'Biggest ever in the history of a city' isnt that big of a deal in some places, but when that city is Oakland thats a whole new ballgame, haha.

Oakland has an estimated 10,000 members in 5 major gangs that control terrertory in the city. #4 murder city in the US.

Fuck that. they should be able to grow as much as they want. the government is the problem not the growers.
