A lot of this is personal preference, of course, but...
I'm all about function, over aesthetics...A proper piece, w/ lots of percolation makes such a difference- effortless, smooth, no drag.
Toro, Luke Wilson (ie: Liesure), and Mobius are my favorites; (addition: I should have mentioned Sovereignty too.)
I really like Toro Micro's, (generally), for a 'daily driver'; I like how stable they are resting on a table...and function wise, Toro's are crazy.
The Mobius bubblers are like that too: short, squat and bottom heavy and ridiculous in the 'function department' I've heard, (haven't tried one yet!)...
Generally speaking, I tend to stay away from purchasing tall tubes, (18"+), a lot of times there's more drag and the added height makes it less stable when resting on a table.
Oh and make sure you ask them to put water in the pieces you're really interested in so you can see them in action, if you are shopping in person.

i really like the HVY brand, and you can get a sick 9mm thick piece with a 8 arm perc for less than 250 at aqua. i have just a normal 5mm thick hvy and it rules

I just bought a bubbler similar in style to this one today at a local shop, ran me $100. 8 arms. Only thing I dislike about it is that the downstem is not removable which will make it a bit more difficult to clean, oh well.

I have a 26" classic glass stovepipe. It hits so hard you get to see your eyeballs pop out and roll around on the deck. Pussies need not apply; we will hurt you.

Love the luke wilson 15 arm bubbler for smoking day to day. For ripping bongs my favorite is still the 7-13 toro. Sovereignty stemlines are pretty tight too.
