In this case, not much.
And who knows what those pallets were supposed to achieve. As captain I would have my guys behind sand bags at least. I would have commenced warning shots sooner . They allowed the pirates to reach the ship during their "warning shots" . The pirates need to be fish food before they are allowed to reach the ship. That's the point of warning shots. Fail.

the pallets were there strictly as visual cover all along that open railing, wherever the rail wasn't open was void of pallets. some RPG action would've been nice too....... |

Looks like FLIR now that you mention it. I thought it was a spot light at first.
