Last few months have been a battle with root aphids , mites and high temps , losses have been high but this is hopefully one of the last to suffer RA,s.

This was about to be seeded and collapsed from yellowing fans to this pitifull state in just five days , all water transport capacity lost , no hope of salvation.

Carefully washed of there is no fine white root at all , all eaten away and crawling with horrors , smell of rotting cabbage stumps is distinctive.

Have cleaned up the stems and left them in water , they will improve a lot in a final week this way and can salvage a few grams of a particularly sweet cross.

The Cherrychunk cross was not to my taste but was tougth , the Casey cross clones are in mid flower again and should finish this time.

Seeded this C99 x Blackberry (Wally) with a different Geisha male , this was a good one in its first version , plant is showing the same signs as her dead sister but a hefty dose of topell should allow her to finish .

The pistills wither and darken within six hours of pollination with this girl , 500 odd seed is usual yield this way in a tiny space with a small bushy mother.

She is showing the signs and it will be lucky if she survives the 35 - 40 days needed for good seed and will look a wreck , will air layer the stem now to improve the odds , has saved several this way.

The root deamage stress has speeded up the cycle , trichs and colour more advanced than usual at this stage , a similar clone died from RA at day forty and gave a 25% nominal yield of the tastiest bud you could imagine , have salvaged something from the faster strains but anything over 70 is a dead loss.

Eight days on and the first purple seed hulls are visible , air layer just showing roots and should outlive the doomed rootstock , a tougth beauty.

The remains of the flowers from this plant after deseeding are a lovely smoke , couchlock lemon hash and nothing like the usual bud.

Another eight Antipodes at five nodes in early veg , will bring the total to fifty and reveal some of whats in the mix.

From the ten SF packs and thirty freebie packs would love to see how they do for someone else in a proper room or hydro where they can show their best , small plants here in small pots to run the numbers
.

Ant 45 shows a particular fused leaf trait and extreme bushiness from seed , the best girl so far has the same traits , hope this is male.

That RA,d seed plant is in intensive care , the air layer may have been too late but injecting water into the hollow stems via syringe four times a day is keeping it going till the roots kick in , hopefully.

If you seriously suspect root aphids at thirty days flower , a practiced air layer straight away would probably save two thirds of the potential crop , and would not harm the plant if wrongly diagnosed , if left atached after a false alarm it could yield more.

The Antipodes finish late september outdoors midlands UK , first frost bringing out the colour.

Yield is down but the flavour is better than usual .

Thanks NE GROWER , some have a nice look about them and Wally,s cross goes well with everything so far.

The current eight Antipodes in flower show well the futility of judgeing unknown genetics on a ten pack , seven tall girls , two with a natural branching structure and only one showing colour this time.

The lone male looks nothing special compared to previous examples but dropped pollen exceptionally early .

Two more unique odour profiles to add to the list , one looks like a keeper.

The darker colours will progress over the whole plant soon , possible stunner in a cold room by then.

The green expressions are an equally good smoke , same rich fruity flavours but without the sharp taste from the dark leaves or the hint of savlon from the Blackberry , both are directly proportional to the degree of colour over several crosses and the best overall plants are not the darkest

Thanks NE , basic nutes and soil with no boosters , they look better treated with care and given some space.

This is an Antipodes keeper from an earlier run on its second outing , rich fruity almost diesel with medicinal aftertaste , and a touch of colour.

There should be a heavy yielding expression of this type and the odd dark stunner to be found.
