Atlantic Diesel (torture) Test Grow

totally did not know that there was a test grow section of the forums. i mean i knew and i have been here before but i didn't think people wrote threads about test grows lol.

today i am testing out Atlantic Diesel from Devil Weed Seeds.

It's a combination of...shit lemme go look it up again. Its an east coast strain called Atlantic Storm crossed with East Cost Diesel. which is the same thing as ECSD if im not mistaken? Anyway its an outdoor... lol

This strain is in it's fifth generation of selection. This is an early finishing outdoor strain, finishes last week of Aug, first week of Sept. Traits that have been selecting are, strength of high, Sweet and Sour type smell, early finishing.
there we go.

these are for outdoors but i convinced DWS to let me test them in my micro anyway, as we have shown in the micro forums there is no such thing as an outdoor only strain amirite?

never had any diesels (knowingly) except sour diesel which may or may not be the same thing as ecsd. looking forward to smoking this one.

I will be growing these in a 1.5sqft 1cuf cabinet. under 70w hps which is currently dying and will be replaced soon. i grow in soilless mix which is mostly peat and some vermiculite and some perlite and a little lime added and maybe a little compost in there somewhere. how come i don't know you ask? well i reuse all my dirt if i can and it is composed of various bags of potting soils i have bought over the years or sourced from elsewhere. and when im done it all goes into a big bin and i add some lime and some perlite and some water and let it cook. plus i will amend it on the go addimg nore this or that depending on how the bag looks that day.

for nutes i use lucas formula...or something like it. i use general hydroponics flora bloom and micro at various ratios to each other depending on the stage of growth. but pretty much 2:1 bloom to micro ratio like lucas. with modifications for different strains of course. i also add something called hydro bact with my waterings in veg and every couple to few weeks after the first 4 weeks from seed. its beneficial bacterias for hydro and hand watered coco according to the label. but im sure this will work in my grow too and anywhere plants grow prolly. seems to be working so far. and in flower i water with 2 teaspoons of molasses with every feeding/watering till i get to the flush where they only get 1teaspoon per gallon of water only. with this 5 pics rules i can't be arsed to re edit everything so i will put pics of my cab in a later post.

im totally overcrowded at the moment so i could only pop 3 seeds. all 3 seeds showed tails in less than 8 hours. INCREDIBLE! never had any that did that before. all 3 came up within a couple of days and veg really fast. they branch fast too fastest branch plants i have had. within a week secondary branches had developed.

the 3 queens in foreground.

I guess i forgot to take pictures after week one. was busy times. but anyway by week 2 the branches were growing nice and it was keeping pretty good node spacing across the plants. they grow very uniform for the most part untopped.

group shot. these plants are pretty hardy too. i accidentally added too much molasses to the water and i didn't ph so the ph dropped lower then i expected and nute burned all the seedlings and clones i watered that day. these ones bounced right back the next day despite one losing a lot of its fan leaves. you can see one of them has a completely dry fan leaf. it was bad.

#2

#3 i know it says grapefruit on the cup its not. i reuse my ...everything i can.

to be continued...

On week 3 a slot opened up in the flower box and since i expected these plants to stretch a lot i threw one into the flower box. AD#1.

then... i didn't take any pictures for a week lol.

week 4

AD#1

oh yeah now i remember. either the stress of the nute burn or the rootboundness or maybe its just the genes. but they started to sex by week 3 of 24/0 i should have mentioned in the first post i will edit it. im a high guy. by week 3 this one had shown preflowers like overnight pretty much . the other 2 looked like they were nearing flower too, hadn't shown anything but if you've grown enough you know what im talking bout when the leaves start growing closer together in preperation for forming flowers.

so i threw it into the flower box. after one week it was in full bloom. didn't stretch too severely either. pretty much doubled in size and still kept pretty tight nodes.

#2

after that i took another 2 week vacation or some shit cuz i didn't take any more pictures till week 6.
while the AD#1 was starting flower the #2 and #3 were in my veg box under 2x 23w cfls and in beer cups being neglected. when they got about 6 inches i topped the second one ^^^ which was the next most sexed one. #3 hadn't actually shown any sex yet but it was all swollen. you know the look.

anyway they were in there being all abused and flowring out under 24/0 but staying pretty short. even after 6 weeks veg these containers kept them small. amazed. everything else just keeps growing and gowing. my veg box is a jungle sometimes.

meanwhile its still week 3 flower for the first one AD#1 it has stretched all the way to the ceiling and i had to supercrop the top 3 inches i accidentally pretty much snapped the stem all the way through. this plant has solid stems like celery not the hollow type so if you super crop make sure to punch really well before you bend it over. the break wasn't all the way through though, just halfway so i let it dangle and hoped for the best. it eventually recovered in a week and now 2 weeks later (not this pic) is woody and strong.

i also threw #2 into flower when i got rid of one of the other clones in the cab which was under performing.
#1 on left #2 on right. #1 is like 14 inches from dirt to top, #2 is about 7 inches or so. the pots really help keep them short. the outdoor pics show huge monsters.

these seeds were developed for outdoor but these look like they would do great indoors if you restrict the roots. excellent sog style. if they always all grow this uniform from seed (i only popped 3) i would grow these with like 2 week veg then 12/12 sog style untopped. i could get like 20 of these in a cab my size.

to be continued...

soil mix

a lot of it is this. seed starting mixes of various brands, and potting soils of various brands. i avoid the ones with time release shit in em.

after the grow i just shake that shit back into a bag and add some lime and stir it up and let it cook.

inside of cab. 20 inches high from floor to bulb. 20 inches wide 11 inches deep. just measured again.

that hydro bact seems to be working. 2 week old clone. (since rooting not from cutting)

ok and now we're all caught up.

Week 7 from seed. begin Week 4@12 for AD#1 / week 2@12 for AD#2

#2 at week 2 of flower on the left / #3 on the right still in veg cab @ 7 weeks from seed.

AD#2

AD#3 just topped it again after i took this picture. i anticipate it will go into flower in a week or two i got something coming out soon.

so in this thread we will get to see how the Atlantic Diesel will grow untopped (slightly supercropped), topped once, and then topped twice.

AD#1 its like 16 inches tall at this point flowering starting to take off. stretch appears over.

main top.

till next week.

Begin Week 6 AD#1 / begin week 4 AD#2 / and #3 not started back to flowering yet so still week 0 flower.

#3 on left #2 on right. looks bad because of the salt buildup i was correcting by flushing. led to nitrogen def, but we are back on track again.

#2 close up...er.

AD#1

nothing much this week, slowly packing on weight.

no smells on AD#1, like im deadly serious it smells like nothing even after rubbing the buds, and shoving one partly up my nostril. all i smell is green, like fresh cut grass. #2 it smells like limes, sprite, 7up. #3 nothing yet still not in flower. just a light minty citrus smell.

anyway till next week.

Hey guys thanks for stopping by.

I had to put the #3 out, all the stresses i inflicted on these girls was too much. she started growing balls after the second topping and had to go. ill see if i can scout out a location where she can try to survive the summer before someone sees and chops her down. if not ill just do it quickly.

Week 8 for AD#1 / Week 6 for AD#2

#1 has started to fill in, i was worried for a while... 6 weeks and still just stems and hairs, but here at middle week 8 it is filling in nicely and if you can see the bud is leaning i think the branch is strong enough to resist splintering, its thin but its solid and woody. i started to notice a smell on her too. i dunno what it is yet but it seems really familiar.
just cant put my finger on it yet. im happy that i can smell anything also other than green grass smell, i was becoming worried about that too. its starting to come in slowly over time. right now i guess it would be what people are prolly talking about when they describe weed as "floral" smelling. smells like a light bouquet of flowers and something else, that familiar smell im talking about.

the AD#2 at about 6 weeks flower, topped once at 5th node. had some salt issues with my hempy style cups, which led to nitrogen def that should be hopefully sorted soon. nothing new to report, sad timing for this nitrogen def as this is when the flowers really kick in if AD#1 is the standard. that one has had the least issues of all the plants in my box really.

oh weezy. till next time hopefully with better looking leaves.

Week 9 AD#1 / Week 7 AD#2

i top dressed AD#1 with some of my soil mix, added a bit more nitrogen than i intended at this stage, i think this set us back like a week or 2. the faint smell that was coming on has faded back to green grassy smell, buds have started stretching a bit and will be delayed a couple weeks like i said so, nothing more to report on that one really, fluffing up and adding weight. the top cola is almost pointing down now. its really slow so theres no stress to the main stem, the next set of buds where i cropped are fattening up as a result.

AD#1

i took some drastic action with #2 and compacted the soil ball down and topped it up with some of my new soil mix been waiting for the pot to dry out and i watered it lightly midweek because it has been drying irregularly. my old mix that i started it in retains too much moisture for the shape of the cup. the roots in the bottom (hempy res) were dryin out faster than the roots in the soil part up top. once it dries out and the roots repair it will take off again. already showing improvement.

AD#2
im clearing out my veg box since summer is rapidly approaching and the weather is getting warmer. im gonna drop a clone i had in there of either #2 or #3 i didn't label it, i didn't even really expect it to root. since the plants were preflowering when i topped them i had a 6 inch cutting and i didn't really want to throw away. so that will be flowering out next...well continue flowering. it never stopped putting out preflowers.

till next time.

Beginning of Week 10 for AD#1 and Week 7 for #2

nothing much to report past what i said couple days ago. gotten over the extra nitrogen and we're back to flowers, still no scents, but we are adding weight.

#2 has started recovering slowly. leaves are getting green again and new fan leaves are being pumped out, still got another 4-5 weeks if it's anything like #1 hope i can make up some yield before the end. im thinking the clone i have in my veg box was from #2 not #3 which will be good because i like #2 it's got more smell from the onset, like limes and fruity apples or something.
