Need help with 150w HPS
Ok, I have a 150w HPS security light that i need to make a remote ballast out of. I have a 70w hps security light allready that i use, but i never took it apart, it just hangs up, but the 150 is HUGE! so i need some help on how to wire it.
Ive been hella anxious and really nervous about taking it apart. I need to know what box i need to get at lowes, the male plug (i will be getting shortly). I need help knowing wire colors/and or pics. ive wired lights before, so it cant be too hard, its just taking it apart and thinking im going to break it that makes me very nervous. can anyone hook me up and help me? I have only grown with flouros..and it was like..4 grams a plant..that sucked but it lasted a month or two..so..will 220wHPS in flower make a lot of difference? i switched to 70w hps in the middle of my last grow (a year ago) and it didnt do much, so i dunno. but anyways..heeeeelp

if you have a look though these same forums, you will find a thread by me, about how to convert a low bay security light, this should give you a few pointers....
the easiest way to do the wioring without getting muddled is to rplace one wire at a time...

Maybe you should look into buying or building a new reflector. Then you could just use the light housing for the ballast. It would simplify things quite a bit, as the ballast is already mounted in the box, and just that can be a pain in the a$$. If you need any help, let me know. Peace...

Well, here are a couple of examples of shades:
Here is a Super Sun reflector, I use these in flowering and they are an excellent reflector, you can use them for any size bulb as the socket is adjustable. If you have the extra $$$ available, it'd be your best bet, as it is well worth it's cost, and if you decide to upgrade to a larger ballast/bulb, which you most likely will, you can use the super sun for it (I run 600w HPS and 400w MH in them, they work great!) The socket is adjustable... A kick ass shade. Now, this shade I made from a few pieces of metal, the reflective from the original light, the socket from the light, and some self-tapping screws. It reflects light, how efficiently I don't know, but it's my veg light (250 MH). It was cheap to make, took some work, but overall is decent. When $$$ is available, I'm going to buy a 8 lamp t-5 flourescent for veg and phase out the 250. For now, though, it works. Top view... View of the underside... I've seen people make reflectors out of darn near everything. Do a search on reflectors, shades, and diy. If you feel up to it, try building your own. But, if you can spare the $$$, a good reflector is a solid investment that you will be glad you bought, as well as requiring very little set-up. Hope that helps, peace...

Nice! Thats the first time I've ever seen a 4 11/16" box used to house a ballast! I haven't put together many small ballasts, though.
