How many lb.s/ month do you grow and use? All I am saying is that the space I would have to use to put the worm bins could b used for making cuts or some other plant uses. Unless you are saying, the number of worm bins needed to make a pallet of castings could fit where the pallet would go. Peace GS

My medium is coco coarse and fine with an equal amount of ewc. Then I add perilite, vermiculite, kelp, blood, and guano with some dolo and mycos. I never have any pest issues no gnats, blights, rusts etc. Plus I feel that my smoke is ever so much smoother than my buddies who's all about chemicals cause they're cheap.

What could possibly be cheaper than worm castings pearlemae?
I am a firm believer in using Mother Nature for everything we can, without exploiting it or overuse of course. Renewable resources are all around us if we just care to look. I could go on and on... but you know the truth! |

Green Supreme, you can keep the worm buckets outside as long as they don't freeze hard in your location. That's what I do... keep 'em under the stairs with the little people

I don't need to draw more attention to myself by having a bunch of bins, no matter how pretty outside my grow. Hey they would never think I was using those worms in the city for growing weed, would they? C'mon. I am still curious to know how many bins it would take to make say a pallet of castings every few months. Peace GS

LOL .... worm bins bad / worm shit good.
moving a pallet of worm castings from point A to point B does not get noticed? i really do see your point ........ but i would still buy a worm bin. someone here was getting a wheel barrel of castings every week from their bin ....... big bin. do you have a good friend with some space? a pallet of castings has got to be pricey. build a bin in your grandma's back yard or something. the end product costs almost nothing ........ and it is WAY better than any bagged product you have ever seen "C'mon" ........... change things one grower at a time |

Okay, I use regular storage bins from Wally World... the rectangular kind that have tight fitting lids and cost about $4 to $8 depending on size. I poke a few holes in the lid and there you have it, a worm bin.
I put my compostable garbage in there, including a bit of paper products (I have to admit the paper will slow the process but the worms will eat it) and within two weeks the bin is transformed, and I move a scoop of the worms along to the next bin. I am basically making quick compost this way. I am not sure about harvesting nothing but pure worm castings...perhaps JustalittleRowdy can elucidate on this for us? Peace and so forth, sorry your neighborhood is so uptight... but even in San Diego I would do this and no one even noticed...
