My sweet tooth #4 conundrum
So I have received my wonderful Sweet tooth #4 Beans, thanks to SOTF! But...This is the question...Do I run them indoor to select a nice lady for all those around me to cherish or do I wait till the spring and let mother nature and the great outdoor assist me in the selection of the best female specimen for outdoor and indoor production.
Outdoor selection would allow me to select an early flowering male to max X's and Bx's with some of the other goodies that are on deck. Any input would be great! |

Id run indoor and keep clones of everything that way come spring you'll know what you want to send outdoors, Just an opinion.

Just remember that picking the quickest flowering male may not always be the wisest choice.

What Landmark said
![]() And about the males, most will flower very early and show sex at around a month old and then the preflowers will open and release pollen eventually if they are root restricted and then they can go into full bloom even under constant light. This is on the pure Tooth males, this trait will not likely show in any F1 outcrosses and it originates from the SPG backcrossing Steve did with the Swt as it's a trait of the SPG clone. (semi-autoflowering when rootbound) Anyways, there are later males that do not show very early and if you are breeding for a certain trait such as faster earlier flowering then use the earliest male that also has the best smell on the stem rub and best overall stature & vigor. If you want to create other strains and plan to inbreed down the line to create IBL's or something similiar or you are going to BX to the Tooth male's pollen then try to find the later flowering ones that do not show signs of auto when rootbound in solo cups or a similiar smaller sized container. It really is going to come down to how many plants you have to choose from but if you are going for more males then in my experience higher temps at germination and in veg seem to increase the male rates. The primary male I used for the IBL generation was a later flowering plant and also totally rootbound resistant as was about half the mothers that made the seeds so the combinations are certainly in there. When you get them going and take pics we can help with the male selection that is what the forum is for brother! Hope this helped you somewhat and please let us know more details on the planned crosses mang. ![]() Much love & light

WOW SOTF! Thanks for that great input! I am looking to make some X's for outdoor production above the 45th. Some Sweet Tooth pollen is to hit my sacred firefly #2 lady, I also have a fast flowering girl that I'm told is a Kush (taste like it and grows like it), an Ice Cream clone which does well outdoor with a super creamy taste, and I plan on doing a male and female selection form 3 packs of Biddy Early I just purchased. So I want early but not auto so that the next generation can be keep for a long time!
Thanks again for all the input, and I'll keep everyone updated once these beans sprout! FF22 |

Cool man, please do keep us updated. The Tooth has some super early males and they do mostly show sex at around a month old or so, the rootbound test in a smaller container will tell you all the rest although some of the more grapefruity ones share the same traits obviously as the SPG they inherited them from so it's kind of a little tradeoff but never really becomes much of an issue outdoors anyways as plants normally are not restricted like they can be in small cramped indoor grows or in little cabinets and such. If you want outdoor and early I would pick the earliest male you find and let it ride
![]() Much love and happy new years 2012

OK so one month in and I have a uniform group of seedlings/young plants one stands out from the rest with some purple colouration in the stem and a sweet and sour smell that is really similar to white grape flavoured winegums. The others are sweet and a bit spicy/herbal with varying degrees of purpleing of the main stem. They are due to be transplanted shortly into one gallon pots so I'll keep ya'll posted on the stem rub's...
