CA Supreme Court Rules in Favor of Cannabis Collectives

In a major victory for patients and medical cannabis cooperatives, today the California Supreme Court rejected calls from the California Attorney General and law enforcement to review the Appeals Court ruling in People v. Colvin (PDF). At issue in this case was Attorney General Kamala Harris’s interpretation of the Medical Marijuana Program Act to require an undefined percentage of the membership of a medical marijuana collective to actively participate in some way in the operation of the collective. The court’s ruling today means that medical cannabis collectives in California may operate like any other collective, such as REI or Costco, in which a member of the collective participates solely through purchasing products distributed by the collective.

It seems to be the direction for safe access as opposed to the dispensaries. The feds have vowed to close every dispensary in California so it is time to regroup. When we have programs on tv that only show the greedy side of the dispensary business then that is the overall perception for obvious reasons and truthfully greed is huge in that particular aspect of the industry. The big time commercial grows are gonna be gone here in this county so that people who are growing just to supply several dispensaries or collectives will end. Alot of those people don't even use the medicine so how can they possibly know their product. They are only growing for profit. To me that is the worst.
Sometimes change is good as long as we can maintain safe access. I do believe a collective or co-op situation can be the solution for safe and affordable access... a model set up like our farmers market where everyone participates and benefits. Not all members want to grow and of course you have higher quality growers that will be more in demand. Maintaining quality control is always an issue and now there are so many wanna bees and newbies that don't have a clue about genetics or what they are selling. That has been the biggest issue the last few years. We try to maintain our co-op rules in the same manner as the local farmers market operates here so selling your own product that you produced is a must. Selling your friends products that you don't even produce or grow is out. Quality is always king. Hopefully we will be able to move forward with safe access in a compassionate manner.

The market has been booming and we have had many vendors with a variety of products and clones of all sizes and strains.
Its been an interesting ride on the bus this time around and no matter what comes down the road this is and always has been my calling.

Saturday's market looks like a good one.. we have been seeing many of the kush strains and we should have a great selection of teens. Looks like Platinum Purps will be on the menu for some lip smacking medicine. Medicated brownies and those incredible medicated pretzels.

There is room in this industry for everyone.. cooperatives and collectives and farmers markets. Its a good thing to have many diverse providers but work your way up on your own merits and not by trying to trash others and then copy their every move because you aren't successful on your own ideas. Serving the patients should be every providers main focus. Strive to be outstanding not an imitation.
