Maintenance of portable oil filled heater

Picked one of here up a couple of years ago for my veg area which is in the basement.

Is there any maintenance that is required for these ? Like re-filling it with oil??

As far as I am aware these type of heaters do not require any maintenance as far as re-filling is concerned. They don't burn the oil only heat it and the oil is sealed inside the unit surrounding the heating coils. I'm pretty certain if you look around the unit you will see there is no cap for any oil. It's completely sealed off and in-accessible.

I'm assuming you mean the oil filled radiator style heater.

I have.... I bought one that had been dropped and was no longer sealed. LOL

If you find any evidence of it leaking or shake it and it feels less than almost completely full... I wouldn't use it. There's usually an element in the bottom and sometimes a second one in the top... either one gets exposed and it's going to fry the heater. PROBABLY not dangerous, but wouldn't know... I dumped the heater.

Glad you sought out answers when you had a question... sometimes ignoring what you don't understand can be very expensive and dangerous.

Stay Safe!

On the subject of oil filled radiators:

Can they be hung vertically safely?

I need to know if mine will blow up or not in my cab.
Thanks!

There are one or two electric heating elements in those heaters. Hang it the same way it would stand up.... otherwise the element inside will possibly be exposed to air instead of oil.

Stay Safe!

They tend to collect dust and residues over time is all. A wiping with a clean cloth and a blast of Windex is about the maintence they need. As for hanging it vertically the thermostat is oriented on the front panel usually and may be rendered ineffective in a non upright position. Stay warm!

Well, portable oil filled heater are best, secure and cheap to operate. These heaters provide overheat protection and safety switches. Their design simple to fit in small area also.
