Troopers with the Indiana State Police Drug Enforcement Unit take nearly $1,000,000 in marijuana off the streets.

The bust was made on eastbound I-70 around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon when troopers stopped a pickup truck just west of State Road 9 for a traffic violation.
Senior Trooper Brad Smith stopped the 2001 Chevrolet pickup driven by Joseph Ground of Hollis, Maine.

According to an Indiana State Police press release, Trooper Smith observed indicators and odors consistent with criminal activity and the presence of marijuana.

After searching the vehicle, troopers discovered the stash of packaged high-quality hydroponic marijuana hidden within large speakers located among musical instruments in the truck's bed.

Troopers say the load of marijuana is believed to be headed from Maine to California.
Ground, the driver of the pickup, was arrested and taken to the Hancock County Jail charged with Dealing in Marijuana and Possession of Marijuana.

"The alleged marijuana that was located tonight is a very high grade, hydroponic plant that would have an estimated street value of $900,000,” said Sgt. Todd Wix. “Trooper Smith looked beyond the typical traffic stop and was successful in removing a large amount of alleged marijuana from the Indiana highways."
