hi,neighbors! i just wanted to ask u do u know is there some companies doing this fracking in Romania either,because they want to do that shit here in Bulgaria,near your border and off course near Dunav... do u know about that problem? because they use many workers from your country here and dont tell anybody what they doing. We are a little scared,making protests and i want to know what do u know about that shale gas? I saw some embarrassing movies about that from all over the world and our politics told us that u gonna do that thing in Romania to and everything is finehaha,see what i,m talking about and then pls tell me your input here most of the people have no idea about that kind of drilling and fracking the shales for gas.

The 2010 U.S. documentary film Gasland by Josh Fox, which focuses on the impact of hydraulic fracturing, is critical of the industry's assertions of its safety and its exemption from the Safe Drinking Water Act in the Energy Policy Act of 2005.

A study published in May 2011 concluded that fracking has seriously contaminated shallow groundwater supplies in northeast Pennsylvania with flammable methane. However the study does not discuss how pervasive such contamination might be in other areas where drilling for shale gas has taken place.

The United States Environmental Protection Agency announced June 23, 2011 that it will examine claims of water pollution related to hydraulic fracturing in Texas, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, Colorado and Louisiana.

A 2011 study by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology concluded that "The environmental impacts of shale development are challenging but manageable." The study addressed groundwater contamination, noting "There has been concern that these fractures can also penetrate shallow freshwater zones and contaminate them with fracturing fluid, but there is no evidence that this is occurring". This study blames known instances of methane contamination on a small number of sub-standard operations, and encourages the use of industry best practices to prevent such events from recurring.

I can't say I've heard anything about it happening here. Never heard people discuss it either. They'd probably know if it was on the news, but it's not like the news has any interest in covering a story like this if it cuts into someone's profits.

Basically they pump the fracking fluid down into the ground in order to "push" the gas up. Seems simple right? Well it is. BUT, there have been cases of the ground water becoming contaminated and there are even places where people can actually stick a fire to the water coming out of their facet and it catching on fire due to the gases that are coming up through their well water. Now that's fracked up!

Well,inform yourself people,see this movie" Gasland". I'm shocked! this is now starting here in Europe and i think we must stop it in our two countries before they poison our water! just see if they starting there too!

By the way i saw that movie "crude-the real cost of oil" about texaco(now Shevron who have contract already to do it here)and u cant imagine for what disaster we are talking about. World disaster will be the right word here! we,the Bulgarian citizens, won't let this thing happen here,but it is near u too and do u know what-u still dont know wich companies will drill in Romania,You have no idea what i,m talking about,havent u?! I was just like that before 2 weeks:( inform yourself immediately!

many big projects that destroy the envoirment are done in our country without us knowing or having something to say about it, that's not news. most of them are done in silence. this is just a new one we just learned about.
