what is the general concensus on which one is better?

they both have their places.led is expensive and not practical for larger growers.

to answer your question with a question, can you please define what "better" means to you?

to some folks better might mean using very little power and not generating heat, yet getting them enough for their own headstash

to some folks better might mean getting the phattest densest buds possible, not caring at all about how much power is consumed and how much heat is generated

it's a loaded question that nobody can possibly answer until you provide more information on what "better" actually means to you

bbb don't mean to hijack the thread, but what is the concensus on say a 3'x3' small one, say a scrog? anything to dodge the heat issue (as much as possible).

ok, by better i mean grows proper IC mag quality buds. i guess what i am more pondering is what is the trade off between choosing one or the other. thanks for the input GP73LPC. i will check out your links.

if you're looking to bosh out commercial grows with the largest short term profit then HID is for you.

if you are interested in stealth, plant tailored spectrums, lighting that runs cooler, pushing the boundaries of quality and are prepared to pay the money for a quality unit then you should look into LED's as an option for sure... and when you think that LED's are only going to get better, cheaper and more efficient then its worth keeping an eye on them.

having used both extensively, i would say that quality can be a little better under LED's - and watt for watt actually used LED's are already more efficient.

This is the HID eating the LED

And yes I know that is a greater than sign, but i remember being in the 2nd grade and learning that it was actually a vicious alligator. So this is a vicious HID alligator eating a LED.
