Would You Like a Separate Forum for LED's?
If the volume of posts regarding LED's is any indication, the apparent interest in this technology has grown tremendously in the last year or so. There is an abundance of great information on here, particularly relating to the DIY aspect of them, but it is very difficult to keep track of even if you know the information is here.
To address this issue, I have asked FreezerBoy about the possibility of breaking off a separate forum for LED's, possibly with a DIY sub-forum. I think that the logical spot would be as a sub-forum of Growroom Lighting, but FreezerBoy raised the point that nested sub-forums are frequently missed. He said that a poll would be a good place to start in order to try and gauge the community's interest in this change, so here it is. If you have any input as to a better location, please post it. |

I voted yes, cause it's worthy and site admin needs stuff to do.
Sans sarcasm, I hope that the technology catches up with the interest. |

What happens in the mod forums stays in the mod forums but I feel safe in saying this topic is now under discussion. No mod wants more work, we've lost some mods to sabbatical and are stretched a little thin. That said, if you guys want this, you need to show some "grass roots" interest.

FreezerBoy, I obviously have no knowledge of the way that the site is set up, but I don't understand why it would create more work for the mod's if the same number of posts are taking place but in a different location. I understand that there would be a bit of work involved in setting up the separate forums, but from there it seems moot. Care to enlighten me?

I voted yes with DIY. TBH, I would like to see a section for LED, MH/HPS and CFL as well as a lighting DIY sub. I don't really think it'll significantly increase work for the mods other than the initial set-up and it'll help keep things topical.

Perhaps all flavors of fluorescents together? It would be difficult to try and split them - there is too much crossover. If you look at the 1000 bulbs site, they list the PL-L's under CFL, where in my mind they would be more properly categorized as T5's (correct diameter, ballast is separate, not an edison-socket connection). It would certainly make research a simpler task.

I voted leave it, but not because of trolls. Seems a slippery slope to introduce light-specific sub forums, and Growroom Lighting is low enough traffic to handle Led tech discussions.
If it was an option, my vote would be make Growroom Lighting a direct sub of Growers Forums, then consider a "DIY LED" sub under that as activity grows.

I still can't decide, I fear the forum already has more subforums than anyone could ever watch. How many new posts are there in the lighting forum every day? It's just a couple.
On the other hand a place where crucial information could be saved and browsed easily would be kind of nice to have. If I would have to decide, I probably wouldn't change a thing. It's seems to work the way it is now, the trolling and fighting about some topics is over, LED guys no longer spam the lighting sub with bullshit discussions which is the best. No I'm glad, it's up to freezerboy to decide and I'm confident he will make a wise decision! |
