HPS set up
I am wondering if I can buy a 35 watt -- 150 watt HPS bulb from home depot and use a ceramic socket then wire it to an extension cord.

As opposed to doing it right? Are you trying to do a low budget grow? Anyway get a proper light and don't fuck with electricity homie! Peace

as chefro420 said you need a ballast
if you are thinking of 150w check this thread out. it shows you how to convert a security light from lowes/depot to a remote ballast grow light. while you are about it check out all the stickys in the DIY section https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=36344
